CJFL: Russell Athletic players of the week – Archer, Cressman, Mueller (video hilites)

Joel Archer – Receiver – Windsor AKO Fratmen

Joel in his 3rd year out of Herman HS in Windsor carried the Fratmen to a 62-7 victory over
the Burlington Braves in semi final action.

The former Green Griffin carried the ball 5 times
for 139 yards, and caught 5 passes for 158 yards and 5 touchdowns. Archer’s 5 touchdown
catches sets a new AKO Record for touchdown receptions in a play-off game.

Ben Cressman – Linebacker – Saskatoon Hilltops

The 4th-year linebacker picked off 3 Clayton Masikewich passes in the championship
win over Calgary. The 3rd interception was a 20-yard return for a 4th quarter score that
was the icing on the cake in the 32-3 win. The 3 interceptions tied a modern conference
record for interceptions in a playoff game that was originally set in a November 5, 1978
playoff game by Greg Jones of the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Mark Mueller – Kicker – Vancouver Island Raiders

14 of the Raiders 44 points during the BCFC championship were scored by the BCFC
Special Teams Player of the Week; kicker Mark Mueller. The veteran would hit a pair of
28 yard field goals as well as a 24 yarder, plus was a perfect 5-5 in converts. As usual
Mueller was busy kicking the ball off, pounding eight kicks that would gross 342 yards.
He would also add six punts that travelled a gross of 197 yards. It’s the first Player of the
Week honour for Mueller this season.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
