OFC Week 6 Recap

In the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) each game is so important with playoff positioning on the line, as the Fratmen, Sooners, Hurricanes and Cougars all won.

The Game of the Week turned out to be a lopsided affair as the Windsor AKO Fratmen beat Predators Football 32-14.
AKO would use two different quarterbacks as Austin Lumley finished nine of 14 for 104 yards and a score, while Drake Sunderland was nine of 22 for 89 yards and threw a pick.

Stephen Russo would make a game high seven catches for 101 yards, while Cody St. Pierre hauled in four passes for 54 yards and the lone score.

On the ground Tarrance Crawford carried seven times for 109 yards and scored the lone touchdown.

The Fratmen Special Teams had another outstanding game as Austin Crumb returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown while two kickers compiled three field goals.

Defensively the Fratmen would record three takeaways as Crumb and Miles Milburn picked off passes.Β  Crumb added a fumble recovery to his terrific game.Β  Linebacker Mason Beekhuis had a career game with 4.5 sacks and two solo tackles.Β  Dalton Wilkinson and Hunter Mina also had sacks.

The Fratmen (5-1) will travel to face the Burlington Braves (1-5) on Saturday afternoon.

Predators Football have now lost three in a row and would collect just 146 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Jonathon Beitz completed three passes for 59 yards including a touchdown.Β  Sfarieff Peru also threw a 61 yard touchdown pass.Β  Both TD passes were caught by Ryan Watt-Dennis.

Beitz would lead the team in rushing carrying the ball six times for 60 yards.

Defensively the Preds were led by linebacker Emin Saphic who collected eight solo tackles and two special teams tackles.Β  RJ Edwards made four tackles and three batted balls, while Ashan Khan recovered a fumble for the lone takeaway.

The Predators (2-4) will travel to Ottawa to face the Sooners (3-3) on Saturday night.

The St. Leonard Cougars have won three in a row after a 23-13 victory over the Burlington Braves last weekend.

They would use the run game to pound away at the Braves as Duqueslin Pierre-Louis rushed 19 times for 171 yards and a touchdown including an 82 yarder.Β  Kodee McDonald would chip in with 10 carries for 38 yards.

Nicolas Lepine struggled throwing four interceptions in the win.Β  He would complete eight of 15 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.Β  He would hit Jean Fritz Charles four times for 82 yards and a score, while Jean Jacque Janvier Jr caught three balls for 62 yards.

Defensively the Cougars would force four turnovers.Β  McDonald would play both ways and would recover a fumble and intercept a pass for touchdown.Β  Wendy Ulysse collected a pair of sacks, while Jonathan Olibrice-Desir had one.Β  Malundu Bukasa would also pick off a pass and Telmaque Yacoub recovered a fumble.

The Cougars (5-1) will be in Hamilton on Saturday night in first place with the Hurricanes (5-1).

The Burlington Braves would fall for the fifth straight time in Week 6 collecting just 142 offensive yards.

Quarterback Tyler Bistrovich finished eight of 18 for 107 yards and threw two touchdowns, both to Brody Essery.Β Β  Kurlin Cadette hauled in three passes for 41 yards.

The Braves run game was non-existent collecting just 39 yards, 31 of which by Alex McFarlane on 14 carries.

The Braves defense played the majority of the game, as Jesse Benson intercepted two passes.Β  Cory Pattison made one pick, while Marco Rotundi also collected one.Β  Donovan Baker would lead the Braves with six solo tackles and Jon West tallied the lone sack.Β  John MacKinnon picked up the only fumble and Nigel Spencer compiled five solo tackles.

On Saturday afternoon the Braves (1-5) will host the Windsor AKO Fratmen (5-1) looking to snap their five game slide.

Last Saturday night in Hamilton, the Hurricanes host the London Beefeaters in a mud bowl scoring an 8-1 victory.

In absolute terrible conditions the Hurricanes would tally just 148 yards of total offense.Β  Quarterback Kyle Sewell would complete four passes for 70 yards, but one of his completions was a touchdown strike to Andrin Masotti.

On the ground the Canes recorded 78 yards led by Jake Reddick who carried 19 times for 62 yards.

The Hurricanes defense was led by Farouk Musa who had a terrific game with eight solo tackles and an interception.Β  Jon Zarafontis recovered a fumble and had a sack while Simon Bell had five tackles and a sack.

Saturday night the Hurricanes (5-1) will play their final home game of the season and it’s a big one, when they host the St. Leonard Cougars (5-1) in a first place showdown at 7:30pm.

The defending OFC champion London Beefeaters would actually outgain the Hurricanes with 228 offensive yards, but were kept off the scoreboard.Β  Running back Joel Clubine was terrific with 25 carries for 184 yards.

Quarterback Josh Beach would complete four of 16 for 30 yards in the horrible conditions.

The lone point scored by the Beefs came off a missed 40 yard field goal from Carmine Gentile that went through the back of the end zone.

The Beefeaters β€œD” would not force a turnover, but were led by Matt Long with six solo tackles while Derek Coleman had five.

Saturday night the Beefeaters (3-3) will host their final home game of the season when they welcome in the GTA Bears (0-6).Β  Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.

The Ottawa Sooners continued their winning ways with a dominating victory over the GTA Bears 48-9.Β  It’s now three in a row for the Sooners.

They would use the run game to near perfection, gaining 326 yards.Β  Matthew Mondoux carried 18 times for 209 yards and a touchdown and Taylor Moran rushed 10 times for 117 yards and a score.

Quarterback Graham Kelly completed seven of 16 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.Β  He would find Tyrone Pierre four times for 55 yards and a score, while Scott Watson’s one catch was a 40 yard touchdown strike.

Kelly, who also shares the kicking duties, was three for three field goal attempts and five for five in converts.

The Sooners β€œD” would force six Bears turnovers.Β  Avery Maloney intercepted two passes and returned one 50 yards for a touchdown.Β Β Β  Ryan Lawther and Logan Commanda would intercept passes and Matthew O’Connor and Nicolas Lortie recovered fumbles.

Saturday night the Sooners (3-3) will host Predators Football (2-4) in their final home game of the year.

The GTA Bears are still looking for their first win of the campaign after starting 0-6.Β  They would gain just 146 yards of total offense against the Sooners in the loss.

Quarterback Abraham Shah completed 13 of 28 for 142 yards, throwing a major and four picks.Β  He would spot Robert Siino for a game high five receptions for 81 yards and the lone major.

On the defensive side of things the Bears would force four turnovers.Β  Hakeem Johnson and Xavier Rogers each had an interception while Taj Mills and Nathan Smith each had a fumble recovery.Β  Rishard Campbell led the Bears with eight solo tackles and Mills had the lone sack.

The Bears (0-6) will look for their first win of the season on the road in London on Saturday night against the Beefeaters (3-3).

PFC Week 6

PFC Week 6 Recap:

This past weekend the Prairie Football Conference standings got even tighter as the Hilltops, Rifles and Thunder recorded victories.

The defending champion Saskatoon Hilltops would flex their muscle as they would dominate the Edmonton Huskies gaining 683 offensive yards in a 58-8 victory.

Hilltops quarterback Matt Karpinka would finish an impressive 14 of 18 for 273 yards and threw three touchdown passes, while back-up Jared Andreychuck threw one major on two completions.Β  The duo would connect with Graham Unruh five times for a game high 148 yards and a major.Β  Chad Braun, Wayndel Lewis and Evan Turkington also caught touchdown passes.

The ground game would once again dominate for the Hilltops gaining 388 yards.Β  Andre Lalonde carried the rock 23 times for 166 yards and a score.Β  Nolan Graham would also rush for over 100 yards, gaining 108 on 13 carries and score touchdown.Β  Lewis would caught a touchdown pass, would run for one as well on seven carries.

The Hilltops defense would completely shut down the Huskies offense and would force four turnovers.Β  Chris Friesen, Austin Thorarinson and Brennen Thorpe would intercept passes, while Tom Schnitzler recovered a fumble.Β  Linebacker Justin Filteau had another big game with seven solo tackles to lead the club.

Sunday afternoon the Hilltops (4-1) will again travel to Edmonton to face the Wildcats (3-2).

The Edmonton Huskies have lost three straight games and haven’t won since Week 3.

Quarterback Trevor Erdmann would finish 17 of 28 for 201 yards and threw a TD pass to Colton Balicki.Β  Anthony Barrett hauled in five passes to lead the club, while Yannick L’Abbe made three catches for 63 yards.

The ground game would gain just 95 yards, led by Brandon Stewart who carried 10 times for 51 yards.

The Huskies defensive unit played the majority of the game, as Adam Kuntz had a league best 12 solo tackles.Β Β Β  Kevin Francis would make an interception and Colton William compiled seven solo tackles.

The Huskies (3-3) will get a chance to lick their wounds heading into their bye week.

 

The other team from the β€œCity of Champions” also suffered defeat last weekend at the hands of the Winnipeg Rifles 46-24.

The home side would rack up 623 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Ryan Marsch.Β  He would pass for 405 yards, setting a new CJFL record with his fifth career game with over 400 yards of passing.Β  He would complete 20 of 28 and threw five touchdown passes.Β  His favourite target was Kurt Goodrich who caught eight passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns.Β Β  He becomes the first receiver in the PFC with over 200 reception yards in a single season.Β  Matthew Lariviere also had a terrific game with three touchdown catches and 93 yards.

Kicker Brad Mikuloff was a perfect three for three in field goal attempts.

The Rifles defense was solid led by Christian Browm-Fillion with seven solo tackles.Β  Braedy Will chipped in with six tackles.Β  Myles McInnes and Cameron Watkins each picked off a pass and David Rhodes, Akida Lewis and Spencer Riche each had sacks.

Saturday night the Rifles (2-3) will travel to Regina for a date with the Thunder (4-1).

The Edmonton Wildcats would have their three game winning streak snapped on Saturday in the loss.

Quarterback Jordan Olson finished 13 of 21 for 176 yards and threw a touchdown to Brad Quartel.Β  He would haul in a total of five passes for 53 yards, while five other receivers caught at least one pass.

All Wildcat rushers would be kept under 100 yards, as Levon Hawreliak carried 15 times for 96 yards, while Olson scampered 11 times for 86 yards and a score.

Defensively the Wildcats would get on the scoreboard to try to help their cause as Riley Aitken recorded a 30 yard pick six.Β  Ryan Migadel led the club with six solo tackles and Kael Schryver tallied five stops.

The Wildcats (3-2) will host the Saskatoon Hilltops (4-1) on Sunday afternoon in an important showdown.

The Regina Thunder would keep pace with their Provincial counterparts by recording a 13-8 victory over the winless Calgary Colts at McMahon Stadium.

Thunder QB Ashe Hastings finished 20 of 34 for 247 yards and threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes to Will Heward who was difficult to stop.Β  Heward hauled in a game high nine balls for 100 yards.Β  Brady Keller caught six Hastings passes for 78 yards.

The Thunder were relatively quiet on the ground as Matt Frass rushed 11 times for 65 yards.

Defensively the Thunder compiled five turnovers as Chris Tunnicliffe and Jaren Wirth each intercepted a pass.Β  William McGee, Brett Selinger and Ben Simaluk recovered fumbles while Selinger led the club with seven solo tackles, and Simaluk collected five tackles.

The Thunder (4-1) will host the Winnipeg Rifles (2-3) in the lone Saturday night game in the PFC.

After an undefeated season a year ago, the Calgary Colts are still looking for their first win through the first six games of the season.

Sunday they would actually outgain the Thunder, but couldn’t hold a fourth quarter lead, suffering their sixth consecutive loss.

Brett Hanchuk started at quarterback and had a solid game finishing 14 of 24 for 202 yards.Β  His go to receiver was Ben Hnatiuk who caught a game high seven balls for 106 yards.

Cameron Fox would have another terrific game in a losing causing.Β  The running back would carry 25 times for 163 yards and score the lone Colt touchdown.

The Colts would frustrate the Thunder offense led by defensive back Connor Robinson who made a team high four tackles.Β  Dan Miazga intercepted a pass for the lone Colt takeaway.

The Colts (0-6) will head into their bye week still searching for answers.Β  Following the bye they will host the Edmonton Huskies on October 6.

BCFC Week 9

BCFC Week 9 Recap:

Week 9 in the BCFC didn’t change the standings much as the Sun, Raiders and Rams all won, keeping the three way tie for first place.

In Kamloops the Okanagan Sun defense would pitch a shutout as the visitors would defeat the Broncos 30-0 at a windy Hillside Stadium.

The defense was led by Brandon Donkers and his seven tackles, while Landon King recorded four tackles, a knockdown and had an interception.Β  Free safety Jack Rush had a pick six, his fourth interception of the season and third against the Broncos.Β  JT Fernandez would block the 10th kick for the Sun this season, while Manu Eli recorded a sack.

Offensively Sun pivot Theo Deezar completed 10 of 20 for 80 and threw two touchdown passes.Β  Tommy Howes caught one of those TD passes and had a game high five catches for 43 yards.Β  Zach Regert’s only catch was an 11 yard major.

The Sun would predominately use the ground game for their offensive attack.Β  Running back Alex Bradley was named the McKinnon Career Coaching Player of the Game with 18 carries for 170 yards.

Thomas Huber and Tyler Deighton would connect on field goals, despite the wind.

The Sun (6-2) will play their first home game in over a month when they host the Valley Huskers (2-5-1) on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm.

The Kamloops Broncos came into the game, winners of their last two and had high hopes on Saturday night in their final home game of the season.

The Bronco offense, which scored 36 points the week before, was shutout this weekend.Β  Quarterback Steve Schuweiler was 14 of 28 for 100 yards and threw two interceptions.Β  Both Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa hauled in four passes.Β  Yachison collected 31 yards, while Csincsa had 27 yards.

Running back Jacob Palmarin carried the ball nine times for 46 yards.

The Broncos β€œD” was on the field for the majority of the game as Grady Chalmers led the way with six solo tackles, three assists and one knockdown.Β  Steve Liss, Jordan Apted and Landon McKim each had four tackles, while Braden McCarthy had the lone sack.

This coming weekend the Broncos (2-5-1) will visit the Westshore Rebels (1-7) on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of

Week 8, when the Broncos blocked a convert at the buzzer to secure the win.

Just as the Okanagan Sun defense pitched a shutout, the Langley Rams defense was equally impressive this past weekend in their 54-7 victory over the Valley Huskers.Β  The Rams would allow just 56 yards of Huskers offense in their sixth win of the season.

The Rams β€œD” had a number of players contribute as Evan Foster collected five solo tackles, while Luke Andrews recorded the lone sack. Both Jeff Paras and Jacob Patko each made two interceptions.Β  Patko ran one back 35 yards for a touchdown and was named the McKinnon Career Coaching Player of the Game as he also had two solo tackles and two special teams tackles.

Offensively the Rams were led by quarterback Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren who completed 13 of 24 for 177 yards and threw three touchdowns.Β  He would also rush seven times and score two majors.Β  His favourite target was Dan English who caught five balls for 62 yards and a score.Β  Spensor Farbatuk and Jordan Traversy also score touchdowns.

Kyle Albertini rushed 13 times for 118 yards and had a major after sitting out last weekend.

The Rams (6-2) will host the Vancouver Island Raiders (6-2) on Saturday afternoon in the BCFC Game of the Week.

The Valley Huskers were frustrated all night in Langley last weekend.Β  Quarterback Cody Parray finished five of 16 for 35 yards and threw four interceptions.Β  Backup Taylor Roth was two of four for just five yards and threw a pick.

The Huskers lone major was scored by Dylan Boykowich who picked up a fumble and returned it 22 yards for a major.Β  He would also block a kick.

Jerry Sidhu would lead the defense with six solo tackles.Β  Jules Kehler recovered a fumble and Buomkuoth Mutuet-Samuel had five solo tackles.

The Huskers (2-5-1) will travel to face the Okanagan Sun (6-2) on Sunday afternoon.

The Vancouver Island Raiders would keep pace with the Sun and the Rams after a blowout victory over the Westshore Rebels, 54-14.

The Raiders would compile 479 yards of total offense, compared to the Rebels 199 yards.Β  Raiders’ quarterback Jamie Ybarra was terrific completing 17 of 20 for 341 yards and threw three touchdown passes.Β  Receiver Dylan Schrot took advantage of Ybarra’s success making five catches for a game high 137 yards and a touchdown.Β  Whitman Tomusiak had six catches for 109 yards and a score, while the only two catches Ariel Fabbro made were for touchdowns.

Backup quarterback Jaeden Marwick only threw one completion and it was for a 23 yard touchdown strike.

Andrew Deleon would lead the charge on the ground with 83 yards on nine carries.Β  Jahmari Bennett saw action for the first time since Week 2 and rushed for two touchdowns on two carries.

On special teams Tomusiak would return a punt for touchdown and kicker Ryan Jones hit one 25 yard field goal to add to the scoring.

Defensively the Raiders did not record a turnover, but did tally two sacks as Quinton Bowles and Dylan Chapdelaine got to the quarterback.Β  Arthur Fabbro, Cole Sampson and Fabian Ross each had three solo tackles to lead the club.

The Raiders (6-2) will travel to Langley for the BCFC Game of the Week to battle the Rams (6-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The Westshore Rebels for the seventh time this season as their offense was frustrated by the Raiders β€œD” compiling just 18 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Hunter Lake finished 15 of 27 for 208 yards and did throw two touchdowns, as Nick Spindor and Jordan Rodinsky each hauled in one of them.

Eric Eggleston caught a game high seven passes for 78 yards and Rodinsky made three receptions for 91 yards.

The Rebels would force three turnovers as Rob Mar, Mike Barry and Curtis Parker each jumped on fumble.Β  Joseph Cavilla would lead the club with four solo tackles.

On Saturday afternoon the Rebels (1-7) will host the Kamloops Broncos (2-5-1) at 4:00pm at Westhills Stadium.
