On Saturday, August 6 the Edmonton Wildcats and the Regina Thunder are meeting in Lloydminster for an Exhibition Game!

The two teams will only meet up once in the regular season, and not until Week 10. The Exhibition Game does not affect standings, but is a chance for the athletes to get to practice being in a real game setting and for the coaches to see what they can do. “It’s always different when you get off your own field and are competing against another team. This is a great opportunity for us to see who can handle the pressure and who is willing to leave it all out on the field”, says Head Coach Darcy Park.

The game is even more exciting for four Wildcats who are from Lloydminster and get to go back and play on their old stomping grounds at a higher level. Fourth Year Quarterback Colton Hippe and 4th Year Running Back Bray Josue both hail from Holy Rosary High School. 2nd year Linebacker Taylor Tangen and 2nd year Defensive Lineman Regan Thompson both went to Lloydminster Composite High.

“It’s a great feeling to be going back and playing in front of our home crowd again”, says Colton Hippe. “This will probably be the last time I get a chance to play on this field. I’ve never lost on it, and I don’t plan to start on Saturday.”

Lloydminster’s Deputy Mayor Jason Whiting will be coming out to welcome both teams to Lloydminster and do the celebratory coin toss!

The game is taking place at Holy Rosary High School on Saturday, August 6th. Kick-off is at 3pm. All proceeds go to the Lloydminster Minor Football Association. Admission prices are $10, or $5 for students and anyone under 12 is free.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
