Since he stepped foot onto the football field, Alex has been an offensive force with any team he’s been a part of during his career. Among the teams he’s suited up for include the Greendell Falcons of the Midget Football League of Manitoba (MFLM), the St. Vital Mustangs of the MFLM and the Winnipeg Rifles of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC). Additionally, the receiver represented his province as a member of Team Manitoba at the 2009 Football Canada Cup in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Alex has earned many honours during the course of his successful football career. In 2008, the offensive gun was MFLM championship game offensive MVP and a league all-star. This past season (2011), Alex was a Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) all-Canadian selection (receiver), a unanimous PFC all-star selection (receiver), and was named overall PFC outstanding receiver.
A key moment back in 2010 was the catalyst for motivating Alex to strive for the breakout season he encountered this past year.
“One memory that comes to mind is after the Rifles losing in the PFC semi-finals in 2010 and a poor personal performance, I made a vow to Coach Graceffo that I would be such a better player come next year, that he would barely recognize me,” explains the Rifles receiver. “After an off-season of hard work training, the Winnipeg Rifles offense and I enjoyed a breakout and record setting year in 2011.”
After a two year academic hiatus, Alex is set to begin a new chapter in his own backyard. Recently, he committed to the University of Manitoba.
“It’s my hometown university so it’s close,” says the future Bisons player of his choice. “I have a lot of friends both going to school there and playing for the Bisons.”
“Plus, they’re building the new football stadium on campus.”
There are several individuals that Alex credits for being positive influences on his football career and in his life.
“In life, the most influential person is of course my father,” comments the Rifles offensive standout. “In football, it would be some of my coaches from the past that include coaches Christian and Bill Csatari from St. Vital, head coach Greg Graceffo and coach Riley Anderson of the Winnipeg Rifles.”
As he prepares for life as a Bison, Alex will take the hard work ethic he’s learned from the game and apply it to tackle all future goals he’s set for himself.
“Hard work breeds success,” says Alex. “If you want to succeed at something, then it takes a commitment and you need to put in the work to achieve your goal.”
