A late start to the sport, Ryan started playing in grade 10 but did not play much due to injury. He gave it another shot this year, and aside from the odd play earlier in his career, this was his first full season. His team achieved their first LOSSA & Metro Bowl championship.

His most memorable experience was playing in the 2010 metro bowl. “Playing in the Rogers Center was a great experience, winning the Metro Bowl even better. I had a lot of big plays, but my best has to be my catch in the LOSSA finals against Wilson. It was just a Hail Mary with a minute to go, and the same play was picked off earlier that game. I had only made one catch in a football game in my entire life before this, so being able to catch the ball and put it on their 5 yard line was an amazing moment, I still can’t believe it. The catch being a do or die play for the season really just set it apart from anything else I had done in the season.”

Ryan has many people to thank along the way. “The coach of our team Fred Zinkie, and my friend’s dad Dave Roberts are two people who really influenced me the most. Zinkie did so much for our team, he organized a trip to Ohio for a game there, he spent long hours preparing the playbook and the team for upcoming opponents, and made the season something special for all of us, Holy Trinity football would not be possible without him. Dave would take me out to his yard on his spare time and teach me a lot of tricks for football that he learned during his time playing. I wouldn’t of performed anywhere near as well if it hadn’t of been for him.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
