Class 2011: Taylor Flavel, RB, Regina Knoll & Team Sask (FCC all-star)

CFC features class of 2011 star running back from Regina, Saskatchewan Taylor Flavel of the Winston Knoll Wolverines. Taylor has been playing football since he was 8 years old starting in the Regina Minor Football league.

Team Saskatchewan

Commitment: Regina Thunder (CJFL)

As mentioned above Taylor started playing in the regina minor league where he played for 8 seasons. It was not until his grade 11 year at Knoll that he started playing running back. That year his high school team won the city championship over defending provincial champion Leboldus Golden Suns in which Taylor scored 2 TDs in the fourth quarter to help them to the victory. Unfortunately the next week in the provincials was not the fourth quarter they were looking for, losing a 19 to 0 lead to Aden Bowman, eventually losing 20 to 19.

But Taylor turned that loss into a positive by ‘fueling the fire’ to compete at a higher level with Team Saskatchewan. He eventually made ‘Team Sask’ (with 6 of his Knoll teammates) and worked hard for playing time. He was a second stringer to begin with but worked hard and it paid off. In the gold medal final versus Quebec he rushed for 112 yards on 11 carries, 3 catches for 33 yards, and a 45 yard return to start the game. His team won the gold medal, he received player of the game award, and was awarded a tournament all star at running back.

After a great summer in 2010 he had high hopes for himself and his team at Knoll. Unfortunately they fell short losing to the eventual provincial champions (Campbell Tartans) in the Regina semi-finals.

His dad has been a big influence on Taylor, instilling in him a great work ethic. His good friend Mitchell Thompson has also taught him a lot along the way. Taylor’s father played for the Regina Rams so do not be surprised if that is where Taylor ends up after his Thunder days.
