Class 2012: Benjamin Oppenheimer succeeds in reaching goals (video)

Today, CFC shines the spotlight on class 2012 star wide receiver from the Ashbury Colts, Benjamin Oppenheimer. Benjamin started playing football in 2008.

During his young football career, Benjamin has accumulated a lot of experience. The wide receiver had a successful high school campaign with the Ashbury Colts where he served as team captain for the last two years.

Furthermore, the graduating standout played with the junior varsity Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for in 2009 and 2010. Benjamin made the progression to the varsity level in 2011 and played for one season with the team.

Honoured for his exceptional play on the field, the Colts wide receiver was selected to participate in the Athletes in Action (AIA) East-West high school Ottawa all-star game for two straight years. This past July, Benjamin experienced the highlight of his football career as he represented Team Ontario East at the Canada Football Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta.

“The experience was definitely what made Team Ontario so much fun,” explains Benjamin. “Staying with the guys in the residencea t Lethbridge and practicing three times a day, meetings twice a day, we were completely immersed in football and I loved it.”

For the Colts standout, head coach Dwayne Smith and offensive coordinator Ken Guarisco have influenced his football career.

“Coach Smith and Guarisco took me as a grade ten player on a senior team and really worked with me to mold me in to the player I am today,” comments Benjamin. “They went way beyond the call of duty working with me on weekends and countless hours of film after practice.”

“I admire their commitment to the team and how they turned me into the player I now am.”

Benjamin is appreciative of having his parents cheering him on the sidelines.

“My parents are really supportive of me,” says the graduating star who is also captain of the Ashbury Colts basketball team. “They are the best parents a kid can ask for and I look up to them.”

Once he graduates from high school in the spring, Benjamin would like to continue studies at university by taking commerce courses. Whenever his football career does finish, he would like to become a manager.

With all life and football goals he has set for himself, the Colts wide receiver will succeed in achieving them. Benjamin has learned the recipe for success from playing the game.

“I’ve learned from football that failure and success are not measured by wins and losses but by how you compete,” comments Benjamin. “Strive to compete every play every game and you’ll be successful.”
