
After Being named the New Brunswick Western conference player of the year, Reid Johnson is looking to pursue career at next level.
Reid Johnson began playing football at a very young age. He was in 8th grade and he was a member of his middle school team. He played for the Albert street Eagles before it was time for him to Attend high school. Reid attended Fredericton high school where he played for one of New Brunswick’s strongest football programs. Reid suited up for the Black Kats for a total of 4 years. He was named the top defensive player in grade 10 and concluded his career with the Black Kats being named the Player of the year this past season. He also won the provincial championship in 2010 as they beat the Macnaughtan Highlanders in the provincial final.
Reid says that winning the banner in 2010 was his best football moment.
“We came from behind and won it all, It was a great feeling, my best moment as a football player”.
Johnson will be graduating this year and is currently looking at either Mount Allison or Acadia to study and pursue his football career. He plans to study either Business or Kinesiology.
“I am yet to decide what school i will attend, they both have good things to offer” said Reid.
Acadia is comming off a very strong season losing to eventual vanier cup winners Mcmaster Marauders in the Uteck Bowl. Mount Allison on the other hand is currently in a rebuilding stage going 0-8 and currently has a very young roster. Both programs could use the dynamic athlete as he has experience as a Running Back as well. Johnson is known as an all around football player who is capable of playing almost any position on the field. He was also frequently used on special teams during his time with the Black Kats.
Reid says that the most influential people in his life and career have been his brother and his first 2 football coaches.
“I try to be like my brother off the field, he is someone i look up to. My 2 coaches when I was in grade 8 Marty Arsenault and Jared Mcginn thought me all the basics of the game. They are the reason I still play today”.
