Class 2012: DL Pierre-Olivier Maltais still looking for right CIS program

Sherbrooke Volontaires standout defensive lineman brings his mother and his good friends courage with him, every time he steps on the field.

Pierre-Olivier started playing football in Sherbrooke as a young boy and has remained in the city since then. After his high school career, he made the decision to stay home to pursue his studies and also his football career at the CEGEP de Sherbrooke. Pierre-Olivier suited up for the Volontaires for his full CEGEP career and was named a league all star this past season as he became a dominance on the field.

The 6’2,235 pound Defensive lineman has become an insperation to many teammates and fans as he shows lots of courage and love for the game of football everytime he plays.

Pierre-Olivier says that his biggest inspiration in life, on and off the field are his couragous mother and his fellow teammate FΓ©lix Deslauriers-HallΓ©, who both sadly lost there 2 year battles with cancer in 2011.

“My mother and FΓ©lix are my biggest insperations, Anytime the going gets tough, I think about them, they fought hard and they will always be on my mind” said Pierre-Olivier.

Pierre Olivier has yet to decide where he will pursue the rest of his football career. It has come down to Laval and Sherbrooke.

“Sherbrooke would be a great fit for me as I would be able to stay in my hometown and also because i know alot of the players on the team but the good thing with Laval is I would be able to have my own place and see the other side of life. I am considering both programs” said Maltais.

He will be visiting both university’s in the next weeks and says he will make the decision when the time comes.

Pierre-Olivier added that his best football moment came with the Volontaires as they won 2 championships together. The game that he remembers the most is his semi final victory in 2010 against les Geants de St-Jean sur Richelieu in overtime.

“That overtime victory was something special for me, in 4 defensive plays in overtime, I got a sack and a tackle for a loss, those were great moments”.
