Seven years ago, Duncan began his football career with the peewee Orleans Bengals. Over the course of nine seasons, the star pivot has played with the Bengals, the Ashbury Colts and the OVFL’s Cumberland Panthers.

The honours have been numerous for the star quarterback. Due to his exceptional play with the Panthers in 2009, Duncan was named junior varsity prospect of the year. Additionally, he was selected to the Team East roster for the Ottawa East-West Bowl all-star game in 2010.

Last July, Duncan participated at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta as a member of Team Ontario East. Most recently, the high school standout was selected as the recipient of the Ken Guarisco award for leadership due to his work with the Colts.

Duncan experienced the highlight of his football career while playing with the Colts last season.

“My most memorable football experience came last year, when we, Ashbury, beat Villanova 28-21 in overtime,” comments Duncan. “It was our first win in our new league (CISAA) and I threw 4 TDs in the game.”

Two coaches have been a driving force in the graduating standout’s life on and off the field.

“The most influential people in both my life and football are my two coaches, Dwayne Smith and Ken Guarisco,” says Duncan. “Without them, I would be nowhere near where I am right now, and they taught me lessons about character and how to deal with adversity.”

Even though football may be his main sport, Duncan also enjoys playing basketball and lifting weights in his spare time.

Once high school is completed, the Colts quarterback plans to continue playing football at the university level. He will be furthering his educating with the hopes of becoming a sports physician.

For Duncan, the lessons learned have not only come from a classroom. Football has given him a sense of how to tackle other aspects of life.

“My favourite quote is “hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard”, and I find that directly applicable to life and football,” explains the graduating player. “One can have all the talent in the world, but what separates those who are good from those who are great is hard work.”

“It is only those who put in the necessary time and effort who will succeed, in football or in life.”
