A juggling act best sums up Harrison’s early football days. For seven years, he balanced playing football with competitive hockey during the fall months. The star defensive back decided to take football seriously in the summer of 2010 when he joined the Ottawa Myers Riders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

I played 12 years of hockey, which was my first sport,” comments the Myers Riders star. “After my Major Midget”AA” team made it to the city championship last year I decided to focus on school, football and training.”

In his first season with the Myers Riders, he started out as a linebacker, but ended up playing in the defensive back position. The move paid off as he was team rookie of the year.

Not only did Harrison move up to the varsity Myers Riders team in the summer of 2011, but he also represented Team Ontario East at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta. The graduating defensive player says playing in the Cup tourney is the highlight of his football career.

“Learning from the best coaches in the country and getting to play against the best players in the country was an amazing experience,” says Harrison. ” Getting an interception touchdown in the last game against Nova Scotia was a special thing because it was my contribution to a real team effort and our first win of the tournament.”

Bob Barr has been a major influence on Harrison’s football career. The coach of the Knights instructed the standout for five seasons.

“His focus on leadership and team qualities has been shown by the many successfula lumni from the organization, and I have taken that all in,” explains the graduating defensive back, who plans to study business in university.

As for the one key ingredient that equates to success for Harrison in all endeavours on and off the field is dedication.

“Dedication from every guy on the team is a quality that is imperative to success,” says Harrison. “I try to be as dedicated as I can in everything I do.”
