Loyalty and knowing what to look for in a coach, may have just been the keys to helping Jack Gatza choose where to continue his football career. Playing for Assumption high school, in Burlington, Gatza flourished into an all-star defensive player, where he claimed defensive MVP with his school.

The awards have not stopped there. Gatza continues to bring his speed and power to every field he plays on, whether its in the Canada Cup representing Team Ontario West, or his home club Burlington Stampeders, where he also claimed JV Defensive MVP.

Gatza’s next step is with McGill University, where he will play under assistant coach Mikey Donovan. Donovan and Gatza have a background together, as it is Donovan who was a coach with Team Ontario.

“I chose McGill because I played for Mickey on Team Ontario West and it was a great time. I really liked him and his system and wanted to play for him,” says the defensive back about playing for Donovan.

Along with Mickey, Gatza looks forward to playing under another Coach, whom he had a chance to get to know, over his span with Team Ontario West. “I also met Pat Donovan out there and I worked out with him on my visit and really enjoyed it as well.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
