Class 2012: Jesse Topley golden in achievements on and off the field (Video)

Today, CFC profiles class 2012 star middle linebacker with the Lorne Park Spartans, Jesse Topley. Jesse has played football for seven years.

During an action packed career with the Lorne Park Spartans, Jesse has made a huge impact in the high school ranks. In five seasons, the star middle linebacker has been team captain three times. Additionally, Jesse was also three time team defensive MVP.

On his resume, the standout has also has significant all-star honours. In 2008, Jesse was selected as a linebacker for the Peel region all-star team. Furthermore, he was invited in 2010 to tryout for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) top 100 team. Last season (2011), Jesse tried out for the Golden Horseshoe region top 100 all-star team and was successful in making the roster.

Jesse experienced his most memorable football moment in his grade 10 season with the Spartans. The team went undefeated en route to winning a Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) championship title.

Coaches Greg Kelly and Scott Price have been apositive influence in Jesse’s football career. As coaches to the young star, he now also considers them good friends.

“Coach Kelly has helped, advised and inspired me throughout my entire high school career, he has done so much for me and without him I probably wouldn’t even have the chance to play university ball,” comments the Spartans linebacker. “Coach Price has been my coach since grade 9 and I don’t believe that there is more intelligent defensive football coach and it is because of him I have become the football player and leader that I am today.”

However, the strongest impact on Jesse’s life has been his parents.

“They are the ones that taught me to work so hard and never give up,” explains Jesse, who also played for the South West Football Association Raiders in the Mississauga Football League (MFL). “They have taught the determination and self-discipline that I have been able to utilize so well in every aspect of life.”

“Without their help and support throughout my entire life I would not be where I am today.”

Not only has the graduating Spartans player excelled on the field, but in the classroom as well. Currently, Jesse has maintained an 85 percent average in all his courses. The student-athlete says that he works equally hard in both football and school.

Once hedoes completes high school this spring, the Spartans standout will study kinesiology at university. As a future career path, Jesse would like to either be a physiotherapist or firefighter.

Overall, football has taught him many valuable skills that he has been able to use when trying to achieving all goals on and off the field. They include leadership skills, concepts of teamwork, dedication, hard work, punctuality and discipline.
