Joe has grown into a defensive star while playing for his high school team, the Newmarket High Raiders of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) and the Newmarket Bucs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Recently, the Raiders defensive standout was selected to the GTA team that will participate in the all-star game on May 6 at McMaster University.

As for the most memorable moment of his football career, it was the last game of the Raiders season in 2011.

“With many of my friends graduating and not returning the game would be the last they would play for our team,” explains Joe of the experience. “We were losing by a few touchdowns and people were starting to hang their heads, but with the help of great coaches and some fantastic leaders and teammates we pulled together and almost came back in the fourth quarter.”

“We didn’t win but it was a great game and I feel it pulled us all a little closer together.”

Being motivated and inspired to play football comes from the many coaches that Joe has been instructed by during his football career.

“My coaches throughout the years have also changed my life for the better,” comments the Raiders defensive standout. “I feel like I could talk to any of them with any problem I’m having and having that connection with their players is inspiring.”

“I feel it makes everyone try that little bit harder.”

The Raiders graduating player says he is also fortunate to have a supportive family.

“The most influential people in life would have to be my family first and foremost,” adds Joe. “I owe everything to them.”

“There is nothing they don’t support me with and that is truly amazing. I’m very thankful to have them.”

Overall, the graduating defensive talent has learned so much from the game which has helped him reach for success in all aspects of life.

“I have learned that nothing is impossible if you put true effort into achieving your goal,” says Joe. “Football has taught me that passion, discipline, and respect will take you very far in life.”
