Class 2012: Kicker Ryan Lambert ready to roar into York University (Video)

Today, CFC shines the spotlight on class 2012 star kicker and recent York University commit, Ryan Lambert. Ryan started playing football for the Stoney Creek Blue Bombers (house league).

With a lot of talent and experience, Ryan has steadily developed as one of the elite kickers in Ontario high school football. Among the teams he’s played for include the Niagara Spears and Hamilton Ironmen, both of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). Moreover, the kicker has suited up for the Niagara Storm of the South Central Ontario Football League (SCOFL), the Burlington Braves of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and his high school team,the Blessed Trinity Thunder.

During his time with the Stoney Creek Blue Bombers of the Hamilton Minor Football Association (HMFA), Ryan experienced a special moment that he won’t soon forget.

“My most memorable football experience was back in house league football when I kicked my first field goal,” explains the Thunder kicker. “This was the start of my kicking career and learning the fundamentals from house league football had set me up for success in my future.”

Among the honours he’s received include most valuable special teams player twice, and team most improved player. Furthermore, the standout was special teams player of the week in the CJFL and OVFL leagues. Ryan also was the convert percentage leader in the CJFL (100 percent). Recently, Ryan was selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will participate in the all-star game at McMaster University on May 6th.

Another recent development in the standout’s life is that he’s made a decision of where he will go next season to play football. Ryan has committed to York and says the school has been on his radar for some time.

“York University is where I am attending to further my education and also to succeed in football,” adds the future Lions player, who plans to study environmental studies at the campus. “The reason for choosing York is because of their astonishing atmosphere and great facilities; not only does this school have my academic program, they also have a great football program which will do great in the years to come.”

“I want to be part of the rebuilding of York’s football club.”

Throughout his football career, Ryan been influenced as a player by his house league coach, Mike Siatris, who taught the kicker everything he needed to learn in order to achieve success. Furthermore, many people in his life have been a source of support, inspiration and motivation in making it possible for him to realize his dreams.

“The key people in my life are my parents and grandparents; not only do they support my dreams fully but they come to every game and support me,” comments Ryan, whose favourite teams are the Green Bay Packers and Hamilton Tiger Cats. “Also my girlfriend and friends have also helped me throughout the years to help me fulfill my dreams of playing university football.”

“They are the best fans I know and have really helped me to decide to commit to York.”

As a result of playing football, the Thunder kicker has learned something very useful that will help him achieve further goals and success on the field or beyond.

“The biggest thing that I have learned from football has probably been leadership as this skill is a valuable asset that I can apply to all aspects of life whether in the workplace, school or sports,” says the standout. “I do not know exactly what the future will hold for me but one thing I do know for sure is that I will give it my all to achieve my goals both on and off the field to become the best that I can be so that I am ready to take on any challenge.”
