For the last four years, Landon has grown into an effective offensive lineman while playing his entire football career for his high school team, the Saskatoon Aden Bowman Collegiate Bears of the Saskatoon Secondary School Athletic Directorate (SSSAD).
During his time there, the Bears won the conference crown in 2010. However, the team lost the Saskatoon 4A final to Centennial. Landon’s most memorable football experience took place in another game against their rivals.
“My most memorable football experience would probably be recovering a fumble in a rival game at the end of this year against Centennial Collegiate in the dying seconds to help secure a higher seed for playoff,” explains the Bears offensive lineman who was team offensive lineman of the year in 2009. “We hogs on the line love it when we get a chance to touch the football at any time.”
Landon will be leaving the comforts of home in Saskatoon and move out West to play for the University of British Columbia next season. There were many reasons he chose to commit to the school.
“UBC has a great school and it offers many great programs,” says the future Thunderbirds player. “It seemed like a great fit for me to be able to play the sport that I love playing, meanwhile being able to go to one of the top ranked universities in the country.”
“Coach Olson was nothing but great in the recruiting process putting a lot of faith in my abilities. I know for certain that the coaching staff at UBC will teach me new things and help me improve my abilities on the line.”
Landon draws on his faith in Jesus Christ to help him succeed in all his endeavours.
“My faith in Jesus Christ has always been important to me and truthfully I believe that’s why I have the opportunity that I have with UBC is because of him,” adds Landon.
One of the main influences on Landon’s football career has been Chris Hengen Braun.
“He was my offensive line coach for three of the four years I’ve played so far,” comments the Bears standout. “Truth be told that I didn’t always want to play offensive line, but he was the spark that really lit a fire inside of me to keep at it.”
However, the support, inspiration and motivation of his family has made it possible for Landon to pursue his gridiron dreams.
“My dad and my uncle have really been influential throughout my life,” comments the Bears offensive lineman. “My uncle actually played for the Saskatoon Hilltops back in the day so he can understand my football lingo, but if it weren’t for my dad and my mom especially, I wouldn’t be the player that I am today.”
“The belief in me, love and support I received and the sacrifices made to put me in numerous football camps has made it possible for me to grow in my position.”
As for future plans, Landon would like to study kinesiology at UBC. His overall career goal is to either become a gym teacher or a personal trainer.
“Football career wise, I just want to do my best as I’ve gone about in high school and see where that leads me,” adds the Bears offensive lineman.
Consequently from the game, Landon has learned the recipe for success.
“Football has really taught me to be diligent at what I am doing and do it to the best of my abilities,” explains the standout. “I have also learned along the line not too be cocky because that will get you nowhere. And to stay humble while letting your play on the field do your talking.”
A key thing Landon continually strives for is balance in all his endeavours while acknowledging there is more to life than the game itself.
“Football has taught me that in life football isn’t everything,” says Landon. “You could have so much invested into the game and then, in one play that could all disappear with an injury.”
“I love football but I need to be well balanced as well: a good football player AND an even better student.”
