Marcus’ football experience is quite extensive. He started his career with the Fall River Dragons. During his time with this organization, he steadily moved up from the peewee to bantam ranks.

Additionally, the graduating offensive lineman played for the Metro Mustangs under-20 team in the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League (NSVFL). Most recently, Marcus went to Lethbridge, Alberta as a member of Team Nova Scotia and participated in the Football Canada Cup (July 2011).

However, Marcus’ greatest achievements came as a star offensive lineman with the Lockview Dragons of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL). In 2011, not only was he team lineman of the year, but was also selected to the NSSAFFL first all-star team (Nova Division) as an offensive lineman.

On the heels of finishing his second and final year with the Dragons, the graduating standout helped the Dragons win the NSSAFFL Tier 2 championship title in November 2011. The Dragons defeated the Halifax West Warriors by kicking a field goal in double overtime.

For the Dragons offensive lineman, this game was the most unique experience in his football career.

“It was one of the fastest paced games I’ve ever played and it was a back and forth battle the entire time,” explains Marcus. “We were down and came back and scored when Brian Jones caught a lateral pass and ran it in for a touchdown, we didn’t let them score and once we regained possession of the ball we kicked a field goal and scored.”

“It was a very emotional game for everyone.”

The biggest cheerleader for Marcus on the sidelines has been his mother as she has been a source of motivation and encouragement.

β€œMy mom has been to every football game I have ever played in and most of the practices,” says Marcus. β€œEven when I was young and didn’t get much playing time she told me to stick with it and keep working no matter what.”

The success Marcus has achieved on the field is due in great part to the man who has coached him the last two seasons at Lockview.

β€œMy coach Mike Korecki took me under his wing and taught me the way of being a powerful aggressive offensive lineman,” comments the graduating Dragons offensive lineman. β€œHe has taught me everything I know and I accredit much of my success as a player, to him.”

Once he graduates from high school in June, Marcus would like to continue his education by obtaining an undergraduate degree in either history or political science. A long term goal for Marcus is to attend law school.

Overall, football has taught the Dragons star what it takes to be successful in achieving goals on and off the field.

β€œFootball has taught me determination and perseverance,” says Marcus. β€œI know that with these two things and a lot of hard work, anything is possible.”

β€œEven when things appear to be in the worst state of affair, to keep pushing and don’t look back.”

Dragons head coach Korecki says that Marcus is the complete package on and off the field.

β€œMarcus has great feet, great work ethic, is very athletic and moves well,” explains the Dragons head coach. β€œHe is gym rat with a mean disposition on the field.”

β€œHe also has a 90 percent average and is a student athlete who is very focused and never gives up.”

The graduating star player is an asset to any team he plays for in the future.

β€œMarcus has big upside on the potential side and will get bigger and stronger down the road,” adds Korecki. β€œHe should be able to contribute in his first year.”

β€œHe will be playing at the next level.”
