Class 2012: OL Jean-Philippe Berard will pursue career with Vert et Or

After a great CEGEP career with Beauce-Appalaches, Offensive tackle Jean-Philippe Berard will continue his studies and football career with The University of Sherbrooke.

Jean-Philippe began playing football at a young age. In high school, he played at Massey-Vanier in his hometwon of Cowansville, QC until it was time to chose a CEGEP. After some debate, Berard made the decision to move away from home. The move to Saint-Georges (CEGEP) proved to be the right decision as Berard received interest from many CIS programs including : The Laval Rouge et Or, Les Carabins de l’universite de Montreal and Sherbrooke.

The 6’4 , 305 lbs Offensive tackle spent 3 seasons with the Condors and was named a league all star in both 2010 and 2011. The offensvie linemen has great size and is known for being a very intelligent lineman. Berard was named one of the team captain in his 2 final seasons showing great leadership on and off the field. His best football memory came this past season when they beat Sherbrooke on the road in the semi final with 0:00 remaining on the clock to earn a spot in the Bol D’or. (CEGEP Championship)

” That moment will be in my memory forever, I still cant describe the feeling” said Berard.

The Condors went on to lose in the league championship but for many of the players, it remains an unbelievable experience as no one expected the Condors to get so deep in the playoffs. The program went throught some very tough years and this past season showed lots of promise for the Condors program.

Jean-Philippe will be enrolling at The University of Sherbrooke in September 2012. The Vert et Or are coming off a very impressive season as they turned many heads in 2011 showing they could play with the best in the Quebec conference.

Berard added that without the help and insperation of his parents, playing at the next level would not be possible as they gave him everything he needed to be successful on and off the field.

“They have never missed one of my games since i started playing football and have been there for me through the ups and downs, I appreciate all that they have done” .

Jean-philippe also said that the Condors coaching staff was the best that any CEGEP player could ask for.

“They make sure you become the best player that you possibly can, their hard work has not only saved the program, Beauce-Appalaches is now a team that kids want to play for, hats off to them”.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
