Class 2012: Pierre-Luc Varhegyi commits to Carabins

After winning 3 CEGEP championships in a row, Pierre-Luc Varhegyi is looking to keep the trend going with the Carabins.

Pierre-Luc Varhegyi first began playing football in 2005, he was a wide receiver for “le Cactus du College Notre Dame”. Pierre-Luc played with the Cactus for 3 seasons and made the transition to Quarterback in 2006. In 2008, Pierre-Luc started his CEGEP career with Vieux-Montreal(div 1), where he went on to win his first championship as a football player. In 2010, he transferred to CEGEP Andre-Grasset for academic reasons and became the starting Quarterback. Pierre-Luc went on to win the division 3 championship in 2010 and 2011. Pierre-Luc also proved his dominance by winning top offensive player and chamionship MVP in both 2010 and 2011.

The 6’1, 205 lbs. Varhegyi chose to enroll at the University of Montreal because he has great faith in the Coaching staff and also because Pierre-Luc puts alot of emphasis on his academics. He will be studying commercial studies and will begin class in September of 2012.

“The Carabins have a great coaching staff, they are also a young team that is showing alot of promise. There also offering the academic program that i want to study, it’s a great school” – said Varhegyi.

Pierre-Luc’s greatest moment came in his final year of CEGEP as his team overcame adversity to eventually win the league championship 38-6 against Lionel-Groulx. Pierre-Luc also added that without the support of his parents and his previous coaches, he would not be in this position today.

“When having coaches like Dany Macciocia, Jacques Dussault and offensive coordinator Jason Hogan, you learn alot about football. My former Cactus coach Jean-Phillipe Perron introduced me to the Quarterback position, i owe alot to him”.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
