Bonaca got his career started with the Edmonton Seahawks’ peewee club where he received Offensive Player of the Year honours. After aging into the bantam division, the Albertan joined the Elk Island Lightning with whom he took home an MVP award. Next, he joined the Salisbury Sabres, starting every game behind center his junior and senior seasons, winning an Offensive MVP along the way. Bonaca’s performance with Sabres earned him a selection to Team Alberta in the 2011 Canada Cup tournament, where he was named Offensive Player of the Game for his squad in a losing effort against Team Quebec in the gold medal game.

Off the field, Bonaca appreciates the encouragement and guidance his family has lent him over the years. The young football star remarks, β€œThe most influential people in my life are my parents and grandparents.”

On the field, it was with the Salisbury Sabres that Bonaca received the support and mentoring that helped him develop into a star high school quarterback.

β€œThe most influential coaches in my football career are my high school Head Coach Cam Fraser, my Offensive Coordinator Blake Dermott, and my Quarterback Coach Andy Pilon,” says Bonaca. β€œThey all helped me get to where I am today.”

Where Bonaca is today, is on the precipice of beginning his tenure as a CIS signal caller. β€œI will graduate high school in June 2012, and will begin university in the fall of 2012,” he says. There, he will look to the Huskies’ coaching staff to continue his development.

β€œI try to model myself after Tom Brady,” explains Bonaca. β€œI watch him play and try to learn from his techniques, and duplicate them. I also think I have the same drive and fire that he does on and off the field.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
