When the football gods had plans for Quinn Horton, it was almost immediate that defense would be his calling. Starting football at the age of 8, it took a year playing baseball, to help Horton relies that football was his calling.”I played a year of baseball and realized how much I missed football so I returned back at age 10 and played ever since.”

Horton’s first season playing serious football was with the St.Vital Mustangs. “I began my career with the St. Vital Mustangs and then decided to go to St Pauls High School to play football,” Horton says. In his grade 10 and grade 11 summer, Horton represented his province playing for Team Manitoba.

Awards and acclamations are something that come natural to Horton as he himself has had his fair share. “I received the Cholakis Brothers award for best down linemen at St Pauls. I made the AAA All Star team in both grade 11 and grade 12.” Along with his football awards, Horton has showed that he can be successful in the class room as well. “I have received the academic athlete award (playing two sports and maintain a 80% average) for all 4 years of high school.” And like many successful players before him, Horton has also been recognized at the Canada Cup. “At Canada Cup I received Player of the game, Game 1 against BC and made the Canada Cup Defensive All-Star Team.”

With all his success, it is fitting for Horton to have memorable games. One that stands out the most, comes from his second year in high school “Winning the championship in grade 10. Our team finished 3[SUP]rd [/SUP]and we were underdogs. Our Defensive Line was young and in the semis we were playing a team who liked to run up the gut. We stepped up and succeed. We then went on and won a exhilarating final against Oak Park Raiders with a score of 52 to 49 in a back and forth game that went all the way to the last minutes of the game”

Simon Fraser is Hortons next calling and the soon to be high school graduate, is excited for what awaits him. “I am looking forward to learning American rules and playing in new destinations. I am looking forward to getting more great coaching and expanding my skills.”
Along with his soon to be venture into post secondary play, Horton will also represent his country. “Another thing in the near future is playing for U20 team Canada. I am playing in Austin, Texas. This is going to be a great opportunity to meet other Canadians and represent our country in a world competition.”

Even tho football is one of the main things in Hortons life right now, the young star is more then aware of the importance of education. “I want to start in bachelor of arts in either psychology or criminology and from there I want to try and get into law school. My father is a lawyer and I want to follow in his foot steps.”

Whether Quinn Horton is crushing people on the football field or in the court room, one thing is for sure, success is evident for the Manitoba native, as he has a strong head on his shoulder. “As for football I want to take football as far as I can go. If that means going pro then that’s awesome if not I want to have the education to continue in life without losing a stride.”
