After establishing himself as a top Canadian football prospect at Sir John A MacDonald Secondary School, Derek Trinh headed south to build upon his resume at Kents Hill Prep School, in Maine. Now, Trinh, a two-way player with good hands and breakaway speed, is considering a jump to the next level.

“College is a potential option next year, but repeating a year at another prep school is also,” says Trinh. Though his immediate future is unbeknownst to the wide out/defensive back, Trinh will eventually move forward, stating, “In the end I do wish to play at a College or University.”

Trinh’s intention for enrolling at an American prep school was “to get better exposure and improve [his] craft.” Regardless of whether Trinh takes another year to do so, it would be difficult to classify his initial season as a high school post graduate as anything but a success.

While attending Kents Hill School, Trinh was named to the All Conference team as a wide receiver, and broke the school record for receptions in a single, eight game season, with 79. Though amassing awards and honours is nothing new to the former Junior Athlete and Football MVP of Sir John A MacDonald Secondary School, Trinh’s time at Kents Hill has allowed him to gain valuable experience, and make some enjoyable memories along the way.

“My most memorable moment was this year,” recalls Trinh. “We were down by 13 points with five minutes left, against Holderness School. I caught a 15 yard, 4[SUP]th[/SUP] down conversion to move the sticks, leading to our first score. After stopping them on defense, we got the ball back with two minutes left. We marched down the field. I caught four passes including a big 40 yard gain on 4[SUP]th[/SUP] down. Next play, I ran a quick out, scoring the game winning touchdown. Final score: 35-34.”

As his football career progresses, Trinh accounts for his success by remembering the positive influence of his family. He credits his two brothers for getting him started in the game he has so greatly excelled at, and acknowledges the value of the support constantly lent to him by his mother.

When Trinh begins his tenure at College/University, he hopes to enroll in a business, or nutrition and exercise science program.
