St. Benedict (high school)

Class 2012 or 2013 (undecided)

Robin started playing football in 2007 for the Cambridge Lions. The motivation to play was because his older brother (2 years) started playing the year before and Robin tended to follow in his brothers footsteps. He did not start his first season for the Lions but also played for the Cambridge Wolverines (atom) that fall where he was a running back and linebacker and was awarded the team Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The next year he played with the peewee Lions again, playing some running back but mostly linebacker. He finished first place in OVFL defensive stats and was the defensive MVP for 2008 peewee lions as well as special teams MVP. That fall Robin played for his high school (St. Benedict) for the first time. He played both running back and linebacker and was the junior teams defensive MVP. In 2009 he played for the junior varsity lions and played just linebacker; and won the defensive MVP again. The same year, his grade 10 season, he decided to move up to senior football a year early, getting a chance to play on the same team as his brother. As a grade 10 player he was awarded the senior team MVP and was the junior athlete of the year at St. Benedict. He repeated the feat in 2010 (grade 11) for St. Benedict (MVP defence) and is currently playing for the senior varsity Cambridge Lions.

Robin’s most memorable football experience “was last year we were in an exhibition game and one of the db’s on the defence had just got an interceptions and i was running up the sideline and i picked a guy who wasn’t really looking and layed him out big time. One of my favourite coaches Mark Hatt said ‘holy shit nice hit’ and the guy got up on his knees but then just went limp and fell right back down.”

The people who have been most influential in football has been “my brother jeremy petrie, and also a friend of mine who in going to western to play football named peter gray. He was a line backer too and i loved playing with him. i played with him for my first year and that was it.”

Robin is considering a variety of universities at the moment in Canada and is not closing the door on playing in the United States. He also plays hockey and track for fun and to stay fit.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
