Class 2012:Rouge et Or land Dominant LB Shayne Gauthier (VIDEO)

The Rouge et Or will have the services of yet another great Linebacker in 2012.

Shayne Gauthier began playing football at the age of 13. He played for the Bowater de Dolbeau Mistassini, a civil football program located in Lac St-Jean, QC. Shayne then made the decision to head to St-Georges de Beauce where he joined the Dragons for one year of cadet football and 2 years of midget AAA where he was named a league all star and also won a championship. Shayne says that moving away from home at 14 years old was not easy, but he is very happy that he made that decision. He says that his parents supported him and made him realize that if playing football was his dream, he needed to go.

“My parents supported me every step of the way, I could not ask for more” said Gauthier.

He also met the coach that he says made him the player that he is today. Richard Jolicoeur was Shayne’s coach during his time with the Midget AAA program and says that he is the coach that thought him the most.

“Coach Jolicoeur thought me almost everything i know about being a Linebacker, I owe alot to him”.

When it came time to pick a CEGEP to attend, Shayne was recruited by various programs. Shayne made the decision to stay in St-Georges and play with Les Condors de Beauce-Appalaches, a CEGEP that plays in Division 2. During his time with the Condors, Shayne proved to be one of the most dominant all around players the league has ever seen. He played Linebacker but was also used as a running back and an explosive Kick Returner. His best football moment came with the Condors this season when they upset heavy favorite Sherbrooke in the league semi final. Shayne scored the winning touchdown.

“When i scored the touchdown that tied the game, it was easily the best feeling i ever had, when we added the extra point to win the game, I Knew we were heading to the championship game, nothing describes that day”.

The 5’10, 215 pound Linebacker was named the rookie of the year in 2009, defensive player of the year in 2010 and was a league all star in all 3 of his CEGEP seasons. Shayne was recruited by Laval, Montreal and Sherbrooke. He made the decision to pursue his career with the Rouge et Or and will be heading to university in January 2012.

Shayne will be studying in Sports intervention.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
