For the past six years, Ryan has played with the Cherokee Indians in the state of Texas (six aside). During his time with the Indians, the standout has received many honours including a first team all-state honourable mention in an offensive lineman position and first team all-district defensive lineman.

Additionally, the offensive lineman experienced the highlight of his football career with the Indians.

“The most memorable football experience is when I scored my first and only touchdown in my whole football career by leaping out and getting the ball over the line by just a few inches,” explains Ryan, whose hometown nicknamed him Rhino when he began his football career. “When the pile cleared away, I looked up and said “Thank you God”.”

Now that he has completed high school, Ryan will be moving north of the border to continue the next phase of his football career. He will call the Prairies home as he’s recently committed to the University of Saskatchewan.

“The reasons I picked the University of Saskatchewan were because of family and a friend,” explains the future Huskies player of his reasons for committing to the school. “A day after spring camp the morning I was leaving, I got a call that my best friend who was also a classmate, died in a car wreck.”

“Head coach Brian Towriss and Coach Jason Sulz (Huskies offensive assistant) were the only people I had at that time and we bonded.”

Over the course of his career, Ryan has been grateful for the many individuals who’ve supported and encouraged him along the way.

“The people I look to for advice and for strength are my coaches, family, and friends,” comments the Indians offensive lineman. “My community is the one that keeps me going.”

While his future gridiron goals are to make the Canadian Football League (CFL) and National Football League (NFL) drafts, Ryan plans to complete a degree at the University of Saskatchewan.

One intangible the offensive lineman will bring with him north of the border will be his leadership skills.

“I am a leader when others can’t,” adds the standout. “I am the man that will stand when others won’t.”

When he does attend the University of Saskatchewan, Ryan hopes to seize every possible opportunity that comes his way.

“I have learned that in football just as in life, there are no good deals, only good opportunities,” explains Ryan. “What I do with those opportunities will define what kind of man I am.”
