When he started his football career in 2001, Devin suited up for the Abbotsford Falcons for one season. From 2002 to 2010 inclusively, he played for the Chilliwack Giants. However, the running back’s greatest achievements came while playing for his high school team, the W.J. Mouat Hawks of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).
During his time there, the offensive standout won a provincial championship with the team in 2008. Moreover, he experienced the most significant highlight in his gridiron career.
“My most memorable football experience is when I ran the first touchdown in on the second play from scrimmage 60 yards in the British Columbia high school “AAA”championship,” explains Devin. “No one was able to catch me and it was a great feeling to get a leg up on the other team.”
Recently, Devin made the decision to commit to the University of Saskatchewan. Not only was the football team was a factor, but the strength of the school’s transition program was a selling point.
“I have a learning disability that I have had to work through my entire school life so the fact that they have a program that can transition you from high school to university is huge,” comments the future Huskies player. “I will still take university level courses but it will be in a smaller classroom setting and will get more one on one with the professor.”
Throughout the years, Devin has been fortunate to have many individuals who’ve had a key role in his success on and off the field.
“I had a lot of people helping me out as I grew up including teachers, coaches and of course my parents,” says the Hawks running back. “Everyone worked to help me get to where I am today and without them I would not be here.”
While playing in the professional leagues is one of Devin’s aspirations, he would like to obtain a degree in kinesiology so he can pursue a career in either physical therapy or training.
Overall, Devin is fortunate for the education he’s received on the field and in turn, hopes to utilize it for further success in all endeavours once he steps onto the University of Calgary campus.
“Football has taught me a lot and the life lessons such as teamwork, patience, perseverance and most of all “Respect Everyone, Fear No One!”,” comments Devin. “All those will come to play in my life eventually and that is what makes football the greatest sport on earth because it teaches you life at the same time.”
