Class 2012: University of British Columbia perfect fit for defensive standout Kyle Madden (Video)

Today, CFC shines the spotlight on Class 2012 star linebacker and recent University of British Columbia commit, Kyle Madden. Kyle began his football career five years ago.

For the past five seasons, Kyle has suited up for his high school team, the St. Thomas More Knights in Burnaby, British Columbia. When he was in grade eight, the Knights won a provincial championship. For his exceptional play in the game, the standout was named most outstanding back.

Additionally, Kyle was team MVP for the past three consecutive seasons. He was selected as a provincial all-star and conference defensive MVP for two consecutive years (2010-2011).

During his time with the Knights, Kyle experienced a special gridiron accomplishment.

“My most memorable moment was when we won the Pepsi Bowl against our rivals, Holy Cross,” explains the Knights linebacker. “The game was played at Empire Field in Vancouver and I was named game MVP.”

Kyle will remain in his home province for the next chapter of his football and academic life. Recently, he committed to the University of British Columbia (UBC) due to academics, proximity and the strength of the football program.

“Choosing UBC was an easy decision for me as it is academically one of the best schools in the country, close to home, and just feels right for me,” comments the future Thunderbirds, who will enroll in the Sauder School of Business at the campus. “Regarding football, the coaching staff are extremely enthusiastic and highly motivated.”

“They are led by Coach Olson who plans on converting me to a halfback position, which I feel is a good fit for me.”

On and off the field, Kyle is fortunate to have individuals who’ve been inspirational, yet encouraging influences for him in his quest to pursue all his dreams.

“I would have to say my parents are the most influential people in my life as they are always there to support me,” adds the defensive star. “Also, my high school coach, Bernie Kully taught me a ton, and helped me develop as a player.”

As he prepares to move onto the University of British Columbia, Kyle will take with him all that he’s learned from the gridiron with the hopes of achieving more feats in all aspects of life.

“I think football has taught me about teamwork, camaraderie and discipline”s ays Kyle. “All of which can only be assets in all aspects of life.”
