Class 2012: Vert et Or land Cornerback / receiver Mathieu Quirion

After 3 years of CEGEP football , Beauce-Appalaches cornerback/receiver Mathieu Quirion decides to pursue career with Sherbrooke.

Mathieu Quirion began his football career in high school where he played for “Les Pantheres de Veilleux”, a high school based in St-Joseph de Beauce, QC. Mathieu then made the choice to stay close to home and pursue his education at CEGEP Beauce-Appalaches, a college that was located 25 minutes from his hometown.

The 6’2, 185 lbs. Cornerback led the CEGEP (div 2) in interceptions this year with 7. He can also play receiver and special teams and also spent time as a punter. He was recruited by many University football programs including Concordia, Bishop’s and Montreal. Mathieu made the decision to commit to Sherbrooke after meeting coach Jean-Vincent Audette and also because many of his former teammates are attending and playing football at the University of Sherbrooke.

“Many of my old teammates are there, that influenced my decision, they all seem to love Sherbrooke. Another reason is that they offer what i would like to study” said Quirion.

Mathieu will be enrolling in university in January of 2012 studying Orientation. He will be studying and playing along side one of his good friends Olivier Nassif-Bouchard, which is also with the Vert et Or and has always been a big influence in Mathieu’s football career.

“Olivier has always been the person that has motivated me, he always told me to keep working hard and i would attend the next level, we have been close friends for years and he always made sure i would never give up on myself”.

Mathieu added that university football would not have been possible without his position coach Sirven Nazon, who worked with Mathieu numerous hours and thought him about the game and the mental aspect of the sport. His Family and girlfriend also have always been there to give him the encouragment he needed along the way.

Mathieu will be looking to help the Vert et Or in the 2012 season. The Vert et Or are coming of a great season, finishing in 2nd place with a 7-2 record behind the Laval Rouge et Or.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
