While Darien may have one year of high school left, he has built an impressive resume of football experience. He has been with the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins program for five years and is currently a member of the senior varsity team. Previous to that, the grade 11 star played for three seasons with the Denis O’Connor Chargers.

In 2011, Darien made huge strides in his career. He played a key role in the success the St. Andrew’s College Saints had this past season. The Saints were the runners-up of the Metro Bowl in the OFSAA league and won the Canadian Independent School Athletic Association title (CISAA) against Upper Canada College.

Winning the championship game on their opponent’s home turf was a surreal moment for the Saints’ defensive star.

“Having all those people from my school supporting me was something I have always dreamed about, and when they ran on UCC’s field, I realized to myself how amazing this moment really is,” says Darien who was defensive MVP of the Dolphins in 2008 and two time Chargers MVP.

Additionally in 2011, Darien was part of the Southern Ontario Rising Stars all-star team. This past July, he was one of the team captains that led Team Ontario East into the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta.

From all the coaches Darien has been instructed by, Saints head coach Len Gurr is the one that has influenced his style of play. Darien has nothing but the upmost respect for Gurr.

“On the field he pushes me harder than I have ever been pushed before because he sees potential,” explains the Saints defensive star that can bench press 405 pounds. “Off the field, he is with us in the class studying game film going over any mistake I have made to make myself a better football player.”

“I could not thank him enough for everything that he has done for me.”

Darien also gives credit to his mother for all that she has done so he can achieve all his football goals.

“I would not be here today if it wasn’t for my mother, who has bent over backwards to put me in the amazing situation that I have for me today,” adds Darien whose 40 yard dash is 4.8 seconds. “She is the reason I am at such a great institution and the reason I have been able to go to places such as Alberta and represent my province at the Canada Cup.”

Away from football, he has maintained honours standing at St. Andrew’s College. That will be a positive for him when he applies to universities to pursue future studies in kinesiology. Darien’s career goal is to become a gym teacher at a high school.

The game of football has taught him so many skills which he utilizes in his life away from the field.

“From football, I have learned proper time management, how to live a healthy lifestyle, that team work goes a long way, and to always work hard in order to get any success in life,” explains Darien.
