Class 2013
Since 2007 Garrett has been playing football in the SAMFA for their peewee, bantam, and midget programs. During that time he has played almost every position on the offensive and defensive lines. While playing bantam his team came up 2 points short of a provincial title. Garrett was then selected to the Alberta Summer games ‘zone 5′ team and the team won the silver medal. After bantam Garrett decided to become a Thunderbird (Ross Sheppard). In grade 10 (2010) Garrett started as the senior teams left tackle and defensive tackle; he also was the long snapper.
His most memorable football experience was “playing on the zone 5 black gold team. The guys were awesome to play with and just great guys. Also to put the stats we put up in that week was just amazing.”
The people that inspire him in football and life include: “My biggest Idol in football right now is Trent Cole, the defensive end of the Philadelphia Eagles. The passion he plays with and his ability just makes me wanna be like him. My head coach Brian Buchynski and Defensive co-ordinator Jeff Tobert are very influential people in my life. They are always telling me to get good grades and to train hard and play with the heart of a champion. And finally my dad. he taught me everything I know in football, and is always finding ways to help make me better. He is also constantly wondering about my grades and if i need help in any subject.”
Garrett plans to attend university in 2013 and has been working hard to do so. First and foremost he has achieved honour roll status (80 or above average). Secondly, he is working hard in the gym working out with Carl McFee (Shep’ strength and conditioning coach) or at Athlete’s Nation to improve his speed, strength and agility.
