Since 2004, Hayden has powered his way up the football ranks in Ontario. The standout has played at two different times with the Hamilton Wentworth Panthers organization. With the senior varsity Panthers team, Hayden was team rookie of the year and also was the recipient of the Coaches Award in 2011.

While the team did not have as great of a campaign on the field in the 2011 season (about .500), Hayden says that the time spent with teammates and coaches made the playing experience worthwhile.

“The bonds and friendships I made with my teammates are better than any game time memory I can think of,” explains Hayden. “Although one of my many highlights of the season was intercepting a pass and returning it for an 85 yard touchdown. I learned a lot from coaches such as Paul Hitchcock, Joe Wade, Claudio Silvestri, Paul Barret, but especially DB coach and CFL Hall of Famer Less Browne.”

“It was great to be able to come to practice and games and be able to soak in their knowledge and experience.”

Moreover, Hayden has previously suited up for the Hamilton Ironmen of the OVFL. During the high school phase of his football career, Hayden played for the Cathedral Gaels and more recently for the St. Thomas More Knights, both of the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB). With the Gaels, senior team, he was team rookie of the year. As a member of the Knights, he led the team into the league championship game. The Knights lost to the Cardinal Newman Cardinals in the title game.

The Knights star athlete has been selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will play in the all-star game on May 6th at McMaster University.

Rising up the Ontario football ranks has been no small task for Hayden. He is appreciative of all his influences that have played a role in his football career. While he thanks Jesus Christ for the “many gifts and talents he has been blessed with,” there are mentors and family members who’ve inspired, yet encouraged him to pursue his football and life goals.

“My parents Jeff and Colleen are always there for me and have supported me 100 percent of the way,” comments the Knights standout. “Also, my grandparents, mentors David Braley and Lou Cafazzo, and my cousin/godfather Joey Cupido (Vanier Cup Champion and starting defensive back for the 2011 McMaster Marauders).”

“They have taught me everything I know about the game I love, but also most importantly the many life lessons that come with it.”

Before football, Hayden excelled in hockey. Throughout his entire childhood, he played AAA hockey for the Hamilton Reps until his minor midget season.

“I then decided to end my hockey career to focus completely on football,” explains the Knights standout, who’s also a golfer and competed in the Halton/Hamilton junior golf tour last summer. “It is a decision that I definitely do not regret.”

When Hayden is ready to enter the university ranks in 2013, he would like to get a degree n business. After obtaining his business degree, he would like to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration.

“I have the intelligence and personality to be successful in the area of business,” adds the Knights football star of his future career goals.

Whether its football or life goals, Hayden will use the things he’s learned on the field in order to attain them.

“I have learned the importance of hard work and how it pays off in all aspects of success,” says Hayden. “I have also learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation to reach a common goal.”

“I have developed a great appreciation for the opportunity to compete in doing the best you can so that you reach your maximum potential and goals in life.”
