While he may have only played with one organization throughout his entire football career, Jake’s thunderous presence was felt on the field. He spent his his young career thus far with the Scarborough/Toronto Thunder of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and the Central Ontario Minor Football League (COMFL). The defensive back won two championship titles with the team: AA COMFL champions in 2009 and AAA COMFL champions in 2010.

Most recently, Jake was selected to the GTA Rising Stars team that will participate in the all-star game at McMaster University on May 6th. Next season, Jake will suit up for the Malvern C.I Black Knights, his high school football team.

During his first year of football with the Thunder, Jake had endured a unique yet special moment.

“My first year o fcompetitive football I was playing both ways (running back and safety) for Scarborough Thunder,” explains Jake. “We made it to the COMFL championship game and it was pouring rain all day so that by the time we started playing the entire field was pure mud.”

“It ended up being an awesome experience since we won 35-0 against the Markham Raiders.”

Over the course of his football career, there is one coach who’s had a profound effect on Jake.

“My junior varsity coach Roberto ‘Bubba’ Allen who pushed me and all his players to achieve their full potential as a football player and a person,” says the star defensive back.

However, the main influences on Jake’s life has been his parents.

“They instilled my values of hard work and toughness that I’m grateful for and that carries over onto the field,” adds the standout.

Jake’s brother is a quarterback on the Thunder and while some may see it as a potential sibling rivalry, it’s far from the case.

“We both push each other and compete to become the best we can possibly be,” comments the Thunder defensive star.

However the future unfolds for Jake he will tackle things with a key ingredient he’s learned from his time with the Thunder.

“Scarborough Thunder’s slogan, which we chant after every practice is “hard work pays off”,” explains Jake. “It’s true since it translates onto the field, in the classroom, and in the real world.”
