Class 2013: Johnny Augustine inches closer to realizing gridiron dreams (Video)

Johnny began his football career in Florida with the Jupiter Warriors (class 8A districts). During his time with the team, he was player of the week and school athlete of the week. When he moved to Ontario, the honours continued to pile up for the star athlete. With the Niagara Spears of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), he was league player of the week.

Playing for his current high school team, the Notre Dame Irish of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA), Johnny was team rookie of the year. He represented Team Ontario West at the 2010 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Moreover, Johnny was Welland Tribune was runner-up for male athlete of the year. Away from the gridiron, the standout is also a successful track and field star as he was the zone 100 metre dash champion.

Most recently, the offensive star has been selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will participate in the all-star game on May 6th at McMaster University.

While he’s experienced many special moments during his career, Johnny says his first football game in Juniper, Florida was memorable.

“My first ever football game in grade nine scoring for three touchdowns and rushing over 300 yards,” explains the Irish running back. “This led me to a positive attitude knowing that this is the sport for me.”

Johnny has been able to realize his football dreams thus far due to the positive influences that have shaped him as a player and a person.

“My lord and all my coaches form football, basketball, and track,” says Johnny, whose future career goal is to pursue something in the business sector. “They have all helped me in my aspect of the game from physically to mentally.”

The offensive gun says that he will continue to use the recipe for success which has guided him thus far in all aspects of life.

“I’m not the greatest athlete but the key to my success and future success will bemy hard work and determination,” comments the Irish standout. “Dreams do come true just believe in yourself and work hard and the sky is the limit.”
