Being a quarter back entitles you to being one of the best athletes on the field, for every second of the game. James Roberts is exactly that for every football teams he’s put a helmet on for and that won’t stop when he takes his talents to the next level. Roberts started his football career in grade 9 for his high school. After getting a taste for the game, he went for the Junior Varisty Cambridge Lions, and started. “I started for the Junior Varsity Cambridge lions and had the privilege to play with Mr. Tyler Varga. We went to the OVFL Championship and lost a heartbreaker to Brampton.”

After his first experience with the Lions, Robert continued his success with his high school where he started as quarterback, taking his team to the WCSSA championship (first in school history). ” I continued to play lions in my grade 10 summer as well as being honoured when selected to play for Team Ontario West.”

Maybe one of the most bitter sweet moments however comes in his past season where Roberts took his high school team back to the WCSSA Championship, where unfortunately he came up short.

Along with his opportunity to already be in championship games at the age he is, Roberts has decorated himself nicely with awards and accomplishments you wouldn’t be surprised to see a QB get. “Being a OVFL championship finalist, Being apart of JHSS’ first WCSSA ‘A’ football championship, Being honoured with the selection to Team Ontario West, Was Junior Male athlete of the year at JHSS in my grade 10 year, Being selected to the WCSSA first All star team,” are all things that are true and dear to Roberts. This May, he will also take part in the GHR Rising Stars game, which the QB was selected for, taking place at McMaster University.

A few years stand in between James Roberts and the success he will have at a university level. But that is not to say this high school student has not been thinking about his academic future. ” I hope to go to university and get accepted into a Kinesciology program and hopefully play football for that university for 4-5 years.” Although time stands in the way of Roberts future, he still has high hopes as to what may come after university. “(in a perfect world) I wish to be a part of a CFL Combine and make a CFL roster but have a Kinesciology degree as a back up so that I can become a certified personal trainer and attempt to be around the game of football as long as I can.”

A humble player, Roberts is thankful for his being apart of Team Ontario West. “Being honoured in the selection of Team Ontario West (my first real eye opener about nation wide football and university recruiting),” was a big milestone however his high school stays close to him as one of the biggest accomplishments so far in his football days. ” My biggest accomplishment would have to be being the QB for the first championship in my schools history, it was a great feeling and I really crave to be apart of the next championship at my school.”
