In 2005, Scott Borden started playing football with the Halifax Argos as a cornerback and receiver. After two years of peewee, the star quarterback decided to take some time off from football in 2007.

Once he did return back to the game (2010), Scott started out as a receiver in camp with the Halifax West Warriors. In his rookie season, he took on roles as receiver and backup pivot for the team.

The Warriors star went to the Football University (FBU) Camp and was invited to go top gun in the summer of 2011. Additionally, Scott played with the junior varsity Halifax Redhawks in the Nova Scotia Varsity Football League (NSVFL). Playing in the spring league helped prepare him to take over the starting quarterback position with the Warriors.

This past season, Scott led the Warriors to the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL) Tier 2 championship game against the Lockview Dragons. The Warriors were defeated in double overtime but it provided Scott with a special moment in his football career. It took place during the first extra frame of the game.

“We started off with the ball in the shootout format so we wanted to set the pace and score right off the bat so me and Kyle Harris hooked up for 40 yard td in the end zone to put us up and get everyone fired up,” explains the quarterback. “That had to be the most memorable experience of my football career.”

Scott credits god and his family as being the key influences in his life.

“Without them, I don’t think I would the person I am today or be playing sports at the level I play at,” adds the Warriors star quarterback.

Playing football runs in the family. Scott’s two uncles, Joey and Quentin Tynes played in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) as running backs: Joey played for St. Francis Xavier while Quentin was a member of the Acadia Axemen. Their nephew hopes to follow in their footsteps and have an equally successful career in the CIS.

The Warriors coaching staff, including head coach Dave Kelly and offensive coordinator David Rent have made a significant impact on Scott’s football career.

“They’re great guys and they do everything they can to help me succeed on the field and off ,they try to put me in the best situations possible,” says the Warriors star pivot that cites Condredge Holloway as his favourite football player.

Other than football, Scott plays midget AAA baseball for the Halifax Mets and is a member of the Halifax West Warriors varsity basketball team. His meal of choice is pizza.

Once the Warriors star quarterback completes high school in 2013, he would like to pursue a degree in Sociology at university and “do something to help other people in life.”

Scott has learned something very essential from football that helps him tackle all aspects of his life.

“To never quit and to never give up on anything because you can do anything, if you put in the work and determination,” says the grade 11 player.

Warriors head coach Kelly says that all of Scott’s hard work has paid off in his goal of becoming a great football player.

“Scott had never played quarterback before high school but when the team needed someone to step up and play quarterback, Scott was the first player to step forward,” explains Kelly. “Scott has shown all the tools that are needed to be a good quarterback.”

“Because of Scott’s approach to the game of always wanting to get better, I feel that going into his grade 12 year, Scott will be a very good player in our league.”
