COMFL: Stampeders sweep Dolphins

Stampeders sweep three times in a row

The Burlington Stampeders entries into the Central Ontario Minor Football League (COMFL) came away with three wins in Ajax-Pickering last Sunday. All three Dolphins were undefeated. Only the bantam team had points scored against them, thus far in the season. The wins, put the peewee and bantams perfect so far in the season.

Atoms score shut out over Dolphins

The Atom Stampeders improved their record to three and one with a 21 – 0 shutout over the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins.
The offence was led by Justin Gec who scored all three touchdowns for Burlington and contributed 185 of the 280 rushing yards. Other contributors were Cavan McLellan with 42, Zachary Ihasz,38, and Jayden Dunnik 21. Joshua Meuris was good on one convert which counts as three points in this division.
It was a combined effort on defence with all players contributing to the tackle totals. Gec, Dunnik, Jack Hourigan, Wyatt Sayers and Evan Unwin had two tackles while Reid Niosi, Sean Stodulski, Kenny Sproat and Ihasz contributed with one tackle.
β€œOur defence really came through for us today. They were tenacious and did a great job gang tackling. It seemed like we had 12 players making every tackle. Now, that’s a thing of beauty.” said atom head coach Jordan Johnston after Sunday’s game.

Peewee Stamps come from behind to remain undefeated

It was a battle of the undefeated teams when the peewee Stampeders faced the Ajax-Pickering team and with some fourth-quarter heroics, they came away with a 22- 20 victory.
The Stamps, now four and zero, needed two fourth quarter touchdowns to erase a 20 – 6 deficit. With the game tied at 20, Shaiene Baker kicked the two-point convert to seal the victory. Baker was two for two kicking converts on the day, with great long snaps from center Noah Cordeiro and perfects holds by QB Curtis Rourke.
Myles Manalo had another solid game running the ball with 22 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner with less than two minutes to play. Matt Paul ran for 84 yards on 23 carries, while Jaden Bailey had eight carries, his longest being 18 yards.
Defensively the Stamps were very solid, lead by Marcus Daniel and first year player Andre Anderson, combining for five solo tackles. A timely interception by Jake Mitchell and fumble recovery by Kellen Butt stopped the Dolphins’ offensive momentum.
Special teams made a big difference in the game with on-side kick recoveries by Lennox Crosby and Paul on kick offs.

Bantam Stamps perfect after four

The Bantam Stampeders are undefeated after four with a 54-22 win over the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins last Sunday.
An outstanding offensive performance was led by Jason Uleryk-Carvalho with three touchdowns including an 85 yard run at the end of the fourth. Nick Langley added two TDs, Adrian Lortie and Nick Casola tacked on one each. Casola did double duty, kicking six successful converts. A great offensive showing by Dominic Mandalfino running for 72 yards with Lex Jeffrey and Nick Arcaro contributing strong offensive games.
The defence held the Dolphins to only 22 points for the game. Jack Miller led Burlington’s defence with eight tackles. Zachary Hoffner and Miller teamed up to sack the Dolphin’s quarterback. The Stampeder defence was rounded out by Marcus Colangelo and Jax Ford with seven tackles each and George Jeffrey, Hoffner and Jacob Dorio with five a piece, Dorio added an interception to close out the game with 45 seconds left on the clock.
