ConU QB Rob Mackay receives Alouettes bursary

Rob Mackay, a fifth-year quarterback with the Concordia Stingers, received a bursary in recognition of his athletic excellence from the Montreal Alouettes at a pre-game ceremony last night at Molson Stadium.

The Stingers’ fifth-year pivot was a 2009 Quebec conference all-star. With 2739 yards passing and 18 TDs he set two Quebec University Football League single season records. He led the QUFL in TDs, passing yards, completions, attempts and yards per game (342.4). His 2739 yards was second best in the CIS.

Mackay was one of seven Quebec university football players recognized by the Alouettes for athletic excellence, leadership or academic success. The other recipients were: Maxime Berube (Laval), Jesse Andrews (Bishop’s), Jean-Philippe Shoiry (Sherbrooke), Alexandre Gregory (Montreal) Alexis Rousseau-Saine (Montreal) and Jonathan Collin (McGill). Bursaries were also handed out to CEGEP and high school-aged football players in Quebec.

Mackay, who received $1250, will play out his university football eligibility this fall. He will begin graduate school in January.

The Port Dover, Ont. native and the Stingers will host the Guelph Gryphons in exhibition action on Thursday, Aug. 26 at Concordia stadium. Kickoff is at noon.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
