Convincing win for Carabins

MONTREAL – Rotrand Sene rushed 15 times for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Montreal Carabins cruised to a 40-12 victory over McGill in RSEQ preseason football before 3,641 at Stade CEPSUM, Friday.

The Carabins, who had a 5-0 advantage in turnovers, generated 434 net yards compared to 302 by McGill, which held a 22-15 margin in first downs.

Jonathan CollinΒ who started at quarterback for McGill, completed 10 of 22 pass attempts for 90 yards. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound native of Greenfield Park, Que., also rushed twice for 34 yards.

He gave way to understudy Pierre-Luc Dussault, a pre-medicine freshman from Quebec City, who was 9-for-11 for 100 yards and one interception. He added 22 more yards of real estate on five rushing plays.

Rookie Pierre-Luc Moquin, McGill’s third-string pivot from Chambly, Que., completed one of six attempts for 21 yards, to go along with three carries for 25 yards.

Pelle Jorgen, a Freshmen from Toronto,Ont., led all Redmen rushers with 35 yards on four carries.

McGill’s leading receivers were Damian Massey-Hirth, a freshman from Montreal, and Yannick Langelier-VanasseΒ a junior from Lachine, Que. The former hauled in five receptions for 49 yards, while the latter snared four for 34.

Defensively, senior linebacker Ian Sheriff Toronto, and nose tackle Dany Arseneault of St. Constant, Que., led McGill tacklers with four apiece.

Next week, McGill will officially open their 133rdΒ campaign when they travel to the lion’s den in Quebec City next weekend to affront the defending conference champion Laval Rouge et Or on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
