Creighton leads Huskies to victory over X-Men

HALIFAX – On a frigid Fall night at Huskies Stadium in front of 1988 fans, back up QB Jack Creighton (4th year, Port Colbourne, Ont) took his first snap under centre in nearly a month and led the Saint Mary’s Huskies (4-1) to victory over the visiting Saint Francis Xavier X-Men (1-4).
With the Huskies offence sputtering in the first half behind rookie quarterback Jesse Mills (1st year, Halifax, NS), SMU Head Coach Steve Sumarah inserted Creighton to try and provide a spark. The senior pivot would not disappoint.

Creighton threw for three touchdowns, including a seventy five yard major to Jahmeek Taylor (4th year, Mississauga, Ont) that broke the game wide open for the Huskies halfway through the second quarter and proved to be all the scoring they would need on route to a 40-16 victory in front of a frozen Thanksgiving weekend crowd at the stadium.

Creighton would complete 15 of 21 passes for 263 yards providing the perfect balance to a dominant running performance by Craig Leger (5th year, Salmon River, NS) who gained 155 yards on 18 carries. Taylor added 160 all purpose yards to complete a three prong attack that proved to be too much for the X-Men.

Jordan Catterall (2nd year, Oakville, Ont) had 6 receptions for 118 yards in a losing effort for the X-Men. The two teams will renew acquaintances next Saturday, October 15th at 2:00 in Antigonish. The game can be seen on Eastlink Television.
