Dalhousie Football…Undefeated Since 1976

Are you ready for some football?
Some 34 years after the Tigers varsity football program folded, a group of Dalhousie loyalists and local football enthusiasts is spearheading an effort to bring it back, not at the varsity level but as a “club” team.
A notice sent to Dalnews Saturday reads:
“We are investigating the level of student interest in creating a Club Football team at Dal to join the Atlantic Football League. The AFL started last fall and currently includes the UNB Fredericton Red Bombers, UNB Saint John Seawolves and Moncton Junior Raiders. Dal and a team from PEI would make a 5 team league for this fall’s season. Last year’s league opener at UNB Fredericton drew 2,500 spectators.”
Dal alumnus Jim Wilson points out that this is not CIS/AUS football. It is club football, like the Dalhousie rugby, lacrosse and field hockey clubs. Club sports are student driven.
The Dal group needs to find out fast if there is any student interest in putting together a team, and wants to hear from full-time Dalhousie students between the ages of 18 to 24 who would like to become a club member and play this fall.
“If you are keen to join, know other students at Dal that play or even Grade 12 students looking to come to Dal this fall—we need to hear from you.”
The group encourages interested students to send an email stating any past football experience, positions played, age, a phone number and email address, by March 8 to [email protected]. Put “Dal Football Club” in the subject line.
