David Lessard appointed 3rd Head Coach in Vert er Or history

La Corporation études-sports de l’Université de Sherbrooke announced the appointment of David Lessard to the position of head coach the Vert & Or football team. David has been the offensive coordinator since 2007 and becomes 3rd head coach in the teams history after Alain Lapointe (2003-2006) and André Bolduc (2007-2011).

“We are very pleased to entrust the reins of our football team to David Lessard. We chose this young coach who is highly competent, dynamic and innovative,” says the Corporate Secretary and Director General of Department of Sport and Physical Activity, Christian Gagnon. “Since arriving in Sherbrooke, David has incorporated the guidelines of the University and the Corporation-sport studies and will be a tremendous asset to our organization.”

In addition to his work as head coach, Lessard will continue to coordinate the offensive.

At 34 years old, David graduated from McGill University (Psychology) and already has nearly 15 years experience in coaching football. He made his debut on the sidelines in 1998 with the coaching staff of the high school Gérard Filion. After two years he jumped to the Collège Édouard-Montpetit Lynx, with whom he coached the running backs for two years, eventually becoming offensive coordinator in 2002. The following year, the Montreal Carabins entrusted him with coaching the offensive line and the ground game in 2005 and 2006.

Since 2003, David Lessard is also involved in the Program of Excellence Football Quebec. He was head coach of the U17 Quebec team that won two national titles (2007 and 2008).

With the Vert & Or, he has made the offense at Sherbrooke one of the best in the country over the last five seasons. Under his leadership, many players were selected to the RSEQ and Canadian Interuniversity Sport all-star teams.

“David is an innovative coach. His knowledge of football is exceptional and continues to deepen every day by going to training courses in the NFL,” acknowledges Alain Lapointe, program coordinator of football Vert & Or. “We have no doubt he will put effort and time necessary for the Vert & Or to take the next step. ”

Posy-Audette and Pronovost

By appointing David Lessard head coach, the Corporation granted him the privilege of choosing his assistants. Thus, Jean-Vincent Posy-Audette, who served as special teams coordinator during the last five years, becomes defensive coordinator. This nomination means the departure of former defensive coordinator Marc Loranger.

Mathieu Pronovost in turn becomes assistant offensive coordinator. He also retains responsibility for the physical preparation in the company of William Boucher.

The rest of the coaching staff will be completed in the coming weeks.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
