DB Bal excited to work with familiar coaches on Waterloo

Warriors add an Ontario commit to their Class of 2017.

After getting a taste of American football, Harjas Bal, a defensive back from Clarkson Football North, decided that his heart belongs in the Great White North, and with the University of Waterloo Warriors.

A former member of Team Ontario, Bal was given a preview of what he could expect from the Warriorsā€™ coaching staff. ā€œI knew Coach Darrell Adams for quite a while. He coached me while I was on Team Ontario as well, so we already had a connection,ā€ Bal said.

It didnā€™t take long for Bal to feel the love from the rest of the coaches. He said they are very open and welcoming. ā€œEspecially Head Coach Bertoia and Coach DA,ā€ he added. ā€œ(They) made me feel like family when I went on my visit.ā€

Bal was a member of the inaugural season of Football North, an American football prep program based out of Clarkson Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. ā€œIt was a great experience,ā€ he said.

Prior to his time at Clarkson, the 5ā€™10, 175lbs Bal played with the Brampton Bulldogs (OVFL) in his hometown of Brampton, Ontario. The ten-year veteran is interested in legal studies. He said that he chose Waterloo because it is “a perfect fit in both academics and athletics.”

In his journey, Bal didnā€™t become the person and player he is today all on his own. ā€œI want to thank my parents for everything that have done for me,ā€ he said. ā€œI am who I am because of them.ā€

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
