Josh Earle started playing football when he was seven years old for the Cumberland Panthers. His father was his first coach and he has not stopped playing football since.

Now Josh is a key member of the St. Peter’s Knights. (NCSSAA) His three touchdown performance and shutdown defence helped them Knights capture the National Capital Secondary School Association AAA Championship last weekend.

Last season as a reward for his stellar, and versatile play, Josh was awarded defensive MVP honours for the Knights. During his lengthy career with the Panthers he has collected numerous trophies for defensive and special teams awards.

“It felt nice to be appreciated enough by my team to deserve that award , I worked hard every game so I was happy they all thought I deserved it,” said the two-way Knight about his defensive MVP award with the Knights.

One of the biggest highlight of Josh’s football career was winning the first championship trophy of his football career with the Knights a year ago.

“Prior to that, I had never won a championship before, so that was a special moment for me and my team,” said Josh.

Ever since his father was his first coach with the Panthers, his family has continued to play a big role in Josh’s life on and off the football field. He appreciates getting to ask them for advice in a wide variety of situations.

After high school Josh wants to continue playing football and enter into a business program at university. He has so far been contacted by Western University, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, and Bishop’s University.

Josh has yet to make up his mind about where he wants to go. He has had an official visit with Carleton and has plans to visit Bishops and Ottawa U when he finds time in his busy schedule.

“For local schools like Carleton and U Ottawa it’s easy to take a bus and see the school. For other schools like Western and Bishops who have asked me to visit, it’s hard make it out there and check out the team and school, considering the amount of time and money it’s takes,” said Josh.

Josh will be attending the OFSAA championships with his Knights teammates in a few weeks. He said he will take advantage of the chance to talk to any schools there if the opportunity arises.

During the football season Josh trains off the field at his local gym. In the off-season he focuses on football specific training at the Gridiron Academy in Ottawa.

Not only does Josh play ways on the football field, but he is a multi-sport athlete. He also runs track as well as plays volleyball and soccer.
