DB East excited for upcoming season

Steph East’s uncle and cousin Marc-Olivier East, former Laval player, encouraged him to play football.

A good friend of his also encouraged Steph to play and introduced the head coach of the St. Michael’s Kerry Blues, where he has now played for two seasons.

During his three seasons on the gridiron, the defensive back has also played with the Toronto Jr. Argos for a summer and was on of the captains on Team Ontario.

Steph says being selected to play against U16 Team USA at the International Bowl at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas is his most memorable football experience to date.

The Kerry Blue has also attended some camps and combines, such as Top Prospects, where he was chosen with two other defensive back players for a camp. Unfortunately, due to an injury, he could not participate.

He also attended U17 Team Ontario Cup tryouts and made it to Guelph, but could not play in the Red and Black game due to the same injury.

Despite the minor setback, the Kerry Blue is looking forward to this upcoming football season.

β€œI’m looking forward to improving my game and hopefully winning another championship with my teammates,” said Steph.

The junior has been enjoying his recruitment process thus far and says it has been β€œgreat.”

β€œHopefully it continues to be as successful in the current years,” added Steph, who is looking for a school where he can combine academic study with playing on a highly competitive team.

The Kerry Blue believes he will be able to adjust to the next level easily with the help of his coach/trainer Dwayne Mundle.

β€œHe has been able to improve my game dramatically over the few seasons to helping me get known,” commented Steph. β€œThe hard work we have put in has been recognized and will hopefully continue in the further years of my football career.”

The defensive back says he models his game after Adoree Jackson.

β€œHe is able to play any position and dominate the game through speed, agility and strength,” explained Steph.
