Defense leads Rouge et Or to victory over Sherbrooke

SHERBROOKE –  The Laval Rouge et Or defense gave nothing to the Sherbrooke Verte et Or on Saturday afternoon as the defending Vanier Cup champions shutout the hosts, 20-0.

At halftime, Laval was leading 8-0.

Defensively for the Rouge et Or, Vincent Plante caught an interception and recovered a fumble while and Vincent Desloges recorded two sacks.   Gabriel Marcoux and Michael Langlois each registered five tackles a piece in the victory.

Tristan Grenon and Guillaume Bourassa each scored a touchdown which allowed the Rouge et Or to distance themselves from their opponent. Bourassa led the team with 66 rushing yards, while Grenon with 52 rushing yards in five carries.  Grenon was less effective with his passing arm as he only had 15 competitions in 28 attempts for 167 passing yards and threw an interception.

The Rouge et Or will face the Acadia Axemen in Wolfville on Saturday for an interlock game. Kickoff is 1:00 EST.  The team will then return to University of Laval’s Telus Stadium on September 22 with where the team will host the Montreal Carabins.
