Tevin Bowen began his football career when he moved from the city of Toronto where he played soccer for eleven years.Ā Tevin did not strap on a pair of football pads until grade 10 of high school where he started out playing offensive guard.

Since he began playing,Ā Tevin has accumulated a number of accoladesĀ  to his football resume. Some of theseĀ  include being selected to Team Ontario West, a selection to the Team Ontario Selects under-18 squad that participated in the 2013 International Bowl in Texas, an invitation to the OVFL Prospect Game, OVFL All-Star selection, OVFL Prospect Game Defensive Linemen MVP (2012), GTA Rising Star (2012), Brampton Bulldogs Defensive Player of the Year (2012). Ā Bowen also served as captain ofĀ both Team Ontario teams.

When it comes to his most memorable football moment,Ā Tevin could not decide which one was more memorable:Ā  either taking home the bronze medal at the 2012 Football Canada Cup where he was a member of Team Ontario West and went up against the best players in Canada,Ā Ā or representing Team Canada at the International Bowl where they went up against Team USA.Ā Ā Tevin reflects on the International Bowl.

ā€œBeating them for three quarters and pushing them to give their best and proving to them that we can ball in Canada,” says Tevin.

TevinĀ has commited to the McMaster Marauders for the 2013 season and states that there were four main reasons on why he chose the school.

ā€œTheyā€™re a great academic institution and when you graduate from the university, their degree carries a lot of weight when applying for a career,” says Tevin.Ā  “It was close to home.”

“I had offers from schools out of the province but personally I wanted to stay in province and close to my family and friends.Ā  The coaches at McMaster both defense and offense along with the players made me feel like I was a part of a family.Ā  The coaches were down to earth and genuinely nice people aside from the fact that they were recruiting me.”

Lastly, it was the stability of the coaching staff at McMaster that helped make Bowenā€™s decision easier.Ā  Bowen points out that when other schools recruit players, the staff that initially brought you in for the visit may not be there once third year comes around as coaches get let go, released and it forces players to build brand new relationships with the new coaches coming in.

ā€œAt Mac, EVERY member of the coaching staff has been there for a minimum 5 years,” says Tevin.Ā Ā  “This means the people high up believe in what they are doing and clearly it has worked with the success theyā€™ve been having from all the Yates Cup titles to more recently their back-to-back Vanier Cup visits.ā€

Bowen enters McMaster with the intent to continue the success of the program and the intent to bring multiple championships back to the McMaster campus.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
