DE/TE Colter’s height and speed gives him an advantage

When coaches come across defensive ends who not only excel at their position but can also play offence, they will definitely covet that particular player. Austin Colter fits the aforementioned description and is passionate about playing defensive end.

ā€œI love playing DE because I just really like to hit people,ā€ he said. ā€œI think my height and my speed off the line is what gives me an edge in both my positions.ā€

Austin has been battling against opposing offences and defences for four years. He has suited up for the Central Elgin Titans and Sarnia Imperials.

These are his defensive end stats from last season: 17 sacks, five forced fumbles and 53 tackles. And these are his stats at the tight end position: 12 catches for 219 yards. Austin was also a League All-Star and won the award for Team Lineman of the Year during the 2016-2017 campaign.

A special moment for Austin was when he got the opportunity to play in a title game.

ā€œOne of my most memorable moments to date is being able to play in a championship game for my hometown (Sarnia) on live television and score a touchdown,ā€ Austin said.

As for style of play, he models his game after Jadeveon Clowney, who is an elite defensive end in the NFL.

ā€œI just feel like, with his size and speed, he’s a monster, and that’s how I want to be,ā€ he said.

Austinā€™s coaches have always been a positive influence in his life.

ā€œI think the most influential people in my football life would have to be my football coaches, they’re the ones that have put my where I am today,ā€ he said. ā€œThey have given me the skills and knowledge I need to progress in this great game and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.ā€

He plans on continuing to play for the Sarnia Imperials and focusing on improving his skills. Football is the focal point of his life.

ā€œFootball means everything to me,ā€ Austin said. ā€œItā€™s my life, I eat and breathe football, everything I do is to progress myself in football.ā€
