Dinos has ‘best combination’ for British Columbia recruit

Delta linebacker signs with CWUAA team.

In the coming months, Blake Gau will be moving from the West Coast to begin his CIS gridiron career.

Recently, the 6’0, 200 pound linebacker from Delta, British Columbia committed to the Calgary Dinos. Gau will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

Prior to the Dinos reaching out to him, Gau was intrigued by the team because of their tradition of excellence as well as reputable academic and football programs.

After his official visit, the linebacker felt it was the right choice for him.  Moreover, the proximity of the Calgary, Alberta campus also played a significant role in his decision.

“The football program has a long history of winning and being a successful program on and off the field,” elaborated Gau.  “I visited several other schools but Calgary ultimately had the best combination of school and football for me personally.”

“My goal was to be accepted into a great business program and the fact that so many members of the football team are enrolled in Haskayne made my decision easier. I also had an amazing experience meeting members of the Calgary alumni. I have a lot of family living in Calgary and it’s a nice distance in relation to home.”

This past fall, Gau led the South Delta Sun Devils of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA) to the Provincial ‘AAA’ Championship. Additionally, he suited up for the South Delta Rams.  Gau has also previously been selected to the Starbowl West Conference team.

In addition to playing linebacker, he has played at the defensive back (strong safety), defensive end and slotback positons during his career.  He has also been on special teams.
