Dinos to host Rams in conference semi-final

CALGARY – For the second time in three seasons, the University of Calgary Dinos will host the Regina Rams in a Canada West semi-final game at McMahon Stadium.

Kickoff between the Dinos and Rams will go at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Nov. 6, live on Shaw TV and qr77.com.

By virtue of the Saskatchewan Huskies’ 52-29 dismantling of the Rams Friday night, they will finish in first place with a 6-2 record and host the Alberta Golden Bears in the other Canada West semi-final. Calgary can match that 6-2 record with a victory Saturday over the Bears in their final game of the regular season, but those two Calgary losses came to the Huskies – giving Saskatchewan the tiebreaker.

An Alberta win, however, would cause a tie for second between the Dinos and Rams at 5-3. Calgary defeated Regina on both occasions they played in the regular season and will therefore win the tie.

The Dinos are 11-2 all-time in playoff games at home; however, both of those losses have come to the Regina Rams in conference semi-finals. Regina and Calgary last met in the playoffs in 2008, with the Dinos coming out on top 24-17 – also in the conference semi-final. All-time, the Dinos are 1-2 in post-season contests against the Rams.

The Dinos host Alberta to close the regular season Saturday, Oct. 30 on Seniors’ Day. Calgary kicker Aaron Ifield will be looking for an individual milestone, needing just one field goal to tie the CIS all-time career record of 70 and two to hold the record outright
Kickoff between the Dinos and Bears goes at 1 p.m. at McMahon Stadium.
