It was an opportunity that almost never was for Logan Fields, a member of the Ardrossan Bisons (Alberta School Athletics Association), but his decision to return to football has earned him a spot on the Kamloops Broncos (Canadian Junior Football League).

Fields began his career with the peewee Sherwood Park Bulldogs (Capital District Minor Football Association). After taking a break for his bantam year, he returned to the game in high school and played for three seasons. In grade 11, he was prompted to captain and was recognized as the offensive lineman of the year and most improved player. In grade 12, where he was also a captain, he was named as the most valuable defensive lineman and the most valuable defensive player.

The young defensive tackle helped lead his team to a tier four provincial championships, which was a first for the school since 2008. The Bisons beat Willow Creek 30-21. “Our entire team came together and gave it their all and in the end, we emerged victorious,” Fields said.

In 2016, he was selected as an Edmonton Metro All Star Football Player and he participated in the 27th Annual Senior Bowl.

For the upcoming Canadian Junior Football League season, Fields will be a member of the Kamloops Broncos. While he was also scouted by the Edmonton Wildcats and the Edmonton Huskies, he decided the Broncos were the right fit for him after attending their spring camp.

“The Broncos have an excellent facility and coaching staff and just an overall great team atmosphere,” Fields said. “It was a very hard choice as all three teams that took interest in me had excellent programs and promoted their teams very well.”

Beyond football, Fields said he is unsure as to what career he would like to go into. He does, however, wish to get a post-secondary education at some point.

Fields didn’t have any players to play football again in grade ten, but after some convincing from his brother Spencer, he returned to the game. Along with the support of his family and friends, the young player also had support from his Bison’s coach, Paul Schwartz.

“Schwartz coached me for the past three years on the Bisons, continuously pushing me to get better, physically and mentally, and I would not be where I am today without him,” Fields said.

With a network of support, Fields has more of an opportunity to focus on his training. Prior to the gym’s closing, he trained with Playmaker U in Sherwood Park. He also undergoes routine workouts at the gym. For the upcoming season, he said, “I plan to outwork my opponents and work hard to be the best I can be.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
